Widdop looked like he was trying. That is as far as I will compliment.

Far too often we insist on passing the ball to a prop, to pass behind another prop, to a halfback, to pass behind another forward to a halfback/Ratchford, at which point the ‘move’ is finished. It’s been done to death. Wane’s Wigan mastered it, and it worked because the dummy runners were like caged animals, so you had to mark them just incase. We have someone plodding showing no enthusiasm or intent to get the ball.

I watched the retro games last week, the two games vs Leeds in 05 and 06, where we zipped the ball from one side to the other in 2 or 3 long, fast passes and really challenged the edge defence, no messing around, no slow props floating rainbow passes. Just direct, Dummy half to Briers, on to Gleeson RUN. It’s so simple, but it gave the centres a 2 vs 2 chance.

Early play to secure Trueman's services? Widdop must be on a fair chunk, freeing up that cash may justify a transfer fee for Trueman instead of having to wait 18 months for him to become a free agent.

In 18 months we’ll no doubt be competing with Leeds / Pies / Saints for his signature too.

Would be a shame to see Widdop go as he’s started the season really well but if we can secure Trueman who could be our half back for the next ten years, it would be good business.

Absolutely no inside info whatsoever here, just idle speculation / wishful thinking.

If Cas are were in dire finacial straits, and assuming that we had cash, then signing Trueman now but leaving him at Cas for the remainder of the season, as we did with Daz Clark, to continue his development under Powell would be a very nice scenario.

I wouldn't assume we're cashed up to throw transfer fees around, the pandemic will have hit our finances badly too. Also it doesn't really feel right to go asking Simon Moran to come up with more money when the events industry has been shut down by the pandemic. If belts are tight give Riley Dean a shot.

Apparently we're offering him around the NRL for this year so he might end up going, but like other people have said at the minute it's purely rumour and speculation.
Looking at the squad for swinton if Widdop did go that could indicate how we'll line up for the rest of the season. Ashton to Fullback and Ratch to the halves.
With how Widdop has started the season i'd be disappointed to see him go but would be happy he'd be back with his family.
I think it's a bit odd to offer him around now but if there was some actual interest from NRL clubs initially, and we're trying to help Widdop reunite with his family then i respect the club for that.
