Its ALWAYS our year

Est.1876

Sent to me from heaven... You are my world.

1876 - 2022

BUM BANGERS SINCE 2012

Re: Sita... : Wed Jul 17, 2019 6:55 am
Watching State of Origin this year each game had about 20 tackles that would have seen players in SL walking off the pitch and hit with bans.

Sita's tackle was a bad one yes but in the overall scope of SL the disciplinary panel are completely over the top. It's a rough, tough game. Played by big lads who are filled to the brim with testosterone and are expected to go and run through brick walls and stay calm and focused at the same time.

The disciplinary reviews don't match up with the live spectacle the game wants to show. At the minute they want two completely different things and that's why the game has become stagnant, predictable and at times, boring.

This isn't a knee-jerk reaction either, I think it's been this way for a few years now and annoys me when I see players from any team banned over stupid stuff.

If we're honest ONE of the main reasons we all got hooked on RL (those of a certain age) was due to the biff/violence. The origin game three was quality last week but it still missed the biff and the game is worse for it. They still embrace it in Ice Hockey (which is a pretty dull sport apart from the odd outbreak of a scrap) so we should go back to, if not endorsing it, letting it be.

Not even taking into account the increased quality, the NRL is just a much better watch. Officiated, broadcasted and ruled a lot better.

I hate the disciplinary process in SL. It's stupid how a player can get sin-binned (or give away a penalty) and then banned. A ban should only follow a sending off or a bad ref error.

The games gone daft run by Imbecile's sita as put 2 players on there behind (yes I know one to hospital) due to poor tackling techniques and yet there were calls from the minority for sita to change the way he runs..then golden boy gets 10 mins in sin bin for a crusher tackle at an field..hill does similar and gets 2 matches....I won't mention the officiating at last years gf with the weasel at full back...to me its not a level playing field

I couldn't agreed more with Ratticus and moving on's posts more. I normally just read this forum and have done so for many years but feel stirred to post about the state of the game today. I have watched the game from the 70's home and away until recently.

I feel that the game has been sanitised almost to the point of boredom and has been for a number of years now. The first time I remember thinking what's going on here was watching Wigan v saints and a certain Mr hock and LMS exchanged pleasantries in a scrum and the ref sent them from the field of play (In a derby game for goodness sake!)

I recently watched a game on You Tube between Wire and Widnes (JPT semi final I believe) and it had me on the edge of my seat. the atmosphere at the game was electric from what I remember of the day and it comes across on the telly as well

There were match up's all over the field and Kurt Sorenson and les Boyd were worth the entrance fee alone and I had forgotten how fast and elusive Brian Johnson was and that gentleman on and off the field Paul Cullen who tried to hospitalise every Widnes player he came across. What a game!

Anyway back to Sita, yes he should play more minutes as should BBM but I cant help myself liking them because they are characters and bring just a little bit of biff back into a game that is sadly lacking it. I cant help but feel the JPT semi would have finished with about three players on each side if reffed now. Anyway that's my rant over and I understand its not everybody's cup of tea and I don't want games marred by players being seriously hurt but its gone too far and its spoiling the game for me.

Sadly I dont think we could ever go back to 1980s rugby and the main reason for that is technology. Back in the day TV pictures were grainy and lacking in detail. Consequently, the referee made decisions and neither the pundits nor the fans had sufficient evidence to prove him wrong. By the same token players could also bend the rules. Today we have multiple HD TV cameras and detailed slow motion replays. There is no longer any hiding place for foul play.

It's NEVER going to happen but we could remove this instant red for a punch thrown malarkey. Spear tackles being eliminated is a good thing - not allowing a good flare up/brawl isn't IMO.

if they brought back the shoulder charge, but heavily penalised head shots, it would improve things massively.

The game hasn't been the same for me since they banned that.

The game is bent, whether policing foul play ,offside or forward passes & going right through to the disciplinary judiciary.

Just my opinions unless it's a FACT, in which case it's a fact.

If by "bent" you mean "corrupt", I don't agree. Certainly there are incosistencies and errors by the Officials, but show me a sport where there isn't.
