I couldn't give a toss what he does in the community, it's what he does on the pitch that matters and Austin had a handful of decent games. Really looking forward to Headingley now to give him the abuse I usually save for Hughes. I'd also have Bridge over Austin everytime.

I agree Bridge over Austin but regarding the rest not for me thanks. What oversees players do or don't do in the community is important IMO. It's better having someone settled than skrieking to go home after five minutes or walking around with a face like a slapped proverbial and being disruptive.

Oh and you never know your luck if Austin and Hughes both play you can abuse yourself silly (pun intended)

I agree that I'd rather have a happy and settled overseas player rather than a miserable sod but just because they're out and about in the community for photo opportunities doesn't make them any better a player. I met Ashton Sims once and he was a lovely bloke and seemed to do loads of good stuff in the community but at the end of the day was an abysmal prop forward.

And I'm not trying to state that any off field stuff makes up for shortcomings on the pitch but I won't be abusing Austin when I see him play next and the same goes for Hughes whether I think he should be club captain, in the starting 13 or on the bench or not.

Each to their own of course

Just my opinions unless it's a FACT, in which case it's a fact.

I’m sorry, Ashton Sims was not an “abysmal” prop, nor anything close to one. He and Hill carried our forwards for a season. I know it’s each to their own but you’re method of supporting your team is not one I recognise.

Let’s not abuse past or present wire players eh? Really no need.

Ashton sims was a top bloke who did LOADS in the community. He also gave EVERYTHING every time he played for the wire. All that aside, he was a below average prop forward who was no better than George King(waits for duckie to comment! )

I have little sympathy for him. In truth, he has a whirlwind 15 weeks when he arrived, after that he was just ok until twitter chat of Williams started, why he saw an uplift in form. That suggests it’s was more of an effort/application matter than anything else (unless there was a spurious and coincidental injury)

Realistically, Myler was (and I’d argue still is) a superior half/pivot (whatever they’re called these days, numbers 1,6,7) than Austin. Myler has a better pass selection and is a calmer influence in the line, in my opinion.

Austin, when passing, always looks rushed. Which is a huge criticism of a half back. I remember Jason Smith coming over to Hull and Everton waxing lyrical about how much time he had on the ball. In truth, they all have the same time, it’s just how quickly they digest what is happening around them.

This was one of my criticisms of Bridge at 6. He actually COULD do everything. But could he do everything at pace, under pressure… no. Austin is an expensive Bridge, who also couldn’t displace Myler.

That said, buying marquees should not be a fast and loose process. In football terms, Leeds Utd had a really good crack isn’t he 90’s and early 2000’s when they spent big and bought names, shortly after they disappeared into the abyss of misadministration. We can’t let that become our fortune by replacing lagging journeymen another

Can’t give you an argument.
Chris Bridge on that very rare form was one of the best half backs we’ve had until Widdop. Even with Widdop we seen he struggled following injury.
Match fitness is a very important thing. Chris Bridge was seldom fit with rolling his ankle and rolling other stuff!
Cullen saw the potential and Bridge let him down. Bridge was one of the reasons Cullen lost his job.
Nobby at Bradford rated him extremely highly at hb but couldn’t get him to behave as a pro. The only reason he moved him out.

Can’t give you an argument, during Sims last season, he played his best rugby and was easily our best prop, at that point my Sim bashing had stopped and I became a supporter and sad to see him go.
In parallel…exactly the same with King the season before, for the last 2 months of his contract, King was fantastic and he too was easily our best prop, all too late, he’d signed for Wakey and we never even replaced him.

I wish I knew the answers, probably give them 3 month rolling contracts?
(That’s a joke btw)

I have no soft spot for any player in our team, if they play sugar,(can’t say shat any more) :SHOOT: I will speak up against them, if they play well…I give the the highest credit.
No player is bigger than my team. I want 100% effort. It matters not if they get something wrong, so long as they get it wrong trying.
