The first game of the season gets more attention, and SKY do more promotion. Your casual sports viewer flicking around bored on a March still in lockdown night isn't going to be interested in two boroughs of Wigan doing battle. Nor is this game likely to be a great contest with the challenge Leigh have on a lower salary cap and short notice of being promoted.

I dont have an issue with Leigh being in SL, but feel yet again feel a Marketing opportunity has been missed here.

I seem to remember this game involving a newly promoted Leigh https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/40174486 one of the best games for a neutral to watch also we have seen also other games Wakey v cas, Hull v KR have had great derbies but also had one sided events you can never tell, if Leigh are going to be a light weight side wouldn't it be better the game was played when they are at full strength
have a think about it and stop being so negative I'm certainly looking forward to the start of the season
just to remind all 8 from 43 = 18.6% in two seasons

we deserve better now

A Leigh v Wigan SL opener non televised would have attracted 10-12k, maybe even more pre Covid. If full crowds are back later in the season I'd expect 16k+ in the return fixture. Leigh always bring good numbers to the DW.

Indeed. It's almost like the whole village turns out whenever they play Wigan.

Although our biggest SL attendance in 2017 at our place was 9.012 v St. Helens, but when we put 50 points past the Pies, it was only 7,080.
Both games were televised, so no idea why where was a difference of nearly 2000 spectators.
As for Wigan's home league games, only their fixture v Saints attracted more than the 15,699 v Leigh.
Make of that what you will. :D

We actually got more against Castleford also. I'd say that as MattyB suggests it was that your fans travelled in good numbers to see yourselves get nilled.

Our fans obviously didn't travel as well to your place to watch our 2nd string as Saints fans did. Then again for them travelling to somewhere like Leigh is a bit of a holiday for them.

The season needs to hurry up and start

It wasn't the annual pre-season friendly, you didn't send your 2nd string. Your 1st team got pasted by little Leigh. You scored 12 points in the last 5 minutes to make the score not look quite as bad. But I agree, roll on the new season.... :D

Our first team yes.

3rd choice full back
4th and 5th choice wingers
A winger in the centres
4th and 5th choice 2nd rowers
Second row at loose forward

Two kids on the bench including our 4th choice centre and 3rd choice hooker.

I think we've probably sent stronger teams to the friendly.

Still, it gave your boys the biggest day in your history ;)

What makes you think we look for the fixture against you crust munching strike breakers first?
How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?

You`re right ,why the RFL didn`t award you the pts because you were unable to put out your strongest side beggars belief!!
