Can understand keeping 'big' games back in the hope crowds return later but are we seriously expecting Wigan-Leigh to attract much interest outside of Wigan? Then we wonder why SKY want to pay less...

Who outside of Hull would be interested in Hull v Hull KR, if it had been at the LSV with a crowd there would be a crackin atmosphere that Sky viewers could enjoy
If you were a RL fan you’d be interested, no crowds and neutral grounds make a big difference- and I do get your point had it been Wigan Saints there would have been a greater interest, but they can’t play each other every week
And it’s probably cost Leigh a fortune not having that game at home later in season when potentially the fans could have been let in

at some point the two clubs would have to play each other, as for the reason why sky wanted to pay less statement just say what you mean you think little old Leigh doesn't belong in super league

I wouldent have suggested the Hull Derby either, as I appreciate it is of less interest outside of Hull. Yes Wigan and Saints can't play each other all the time, but surely it wasn't too much of an overkill to have that as the first round game and also a loop game (so that both sides get a home fixture)
Good point about Leigh losing their biggest audience of the season too. Seems an odd decision to me.

The first game of the season gets more attention, and SKY do more promotion. Your casual sports viewer flicking around bored on a March still in lockdown night isn't going to be interested in two boroughs of Wigan doing battle. Nor is this game likely to be a great contest with the challenge Leigh have on a lower salary cap and short notice of being promoted.
I dont have an issue with Leigh being in SL, but feel yet again feel a Marketing opportunity has been missed here.
first 2 rounds are loop fixtures if what i read on twitter earlier today is correct, so there is still an opportunity leigh will host wigan again at home (hopefully with fans at some point)
A Leigh v Wigan SL opener non televised would have attracted 10-12k, maybe even more pre Covid. If full crowds are back later in the season I'd expect 16k+ in the return fixture. Leigh always bring good numbers to the DW.

Leigh are not on a lower salary cap - less Sky money yes but I don’t believe that stops us spending up to the max, just that the owner will have to dib more in if that’s what he wants to do - the main issue is as you say is the short notice, we’ve built up a very decent champ squad but difficult to bring in the quality to step up at this stage
