Look what Mike Maguire did at Wigan!
In all fairness to Maguire, he was an assistant at Canberra Raiders reserve grade under Mal Meninga in the early 2000's before being promoted to assistant of the first team. Then in 2004 he joined Melbourne as the assistant to Craig Bellamy, went through all their success with them in the late 2000's and took the reigns of Melbourne when Bellamy was on NSW duty. Was touted for Brisbane job in 2008 to succeed Wayne Bennett. Then finally got a head coach job at Wigan in 2010.
He'd had nigh on 10 years working under Mal Meninga, Matthew Elliott and Craig Bellamy all at pretty big clubs. So he had a lot of pedigree before getting the Wigan job, and don't forget it was a Wigan team that wasn't as dominant as it was or is now either.
Hodgson just doesn't have that background at the moment. So just wondering if maybe it's a bit early for him to take a big job such as Hull. There's expectation there now that wasn't there say 10 years ago. I for one hope he does brilliantly, hate to see coaches fail and I really liked him as a player too. One of the best fullbacks to have played over here. Safe as houses.
