Is he experienced enough for the job? He was assistant at Widnes for a bit then at Wests Tigers in 2018 and head coach of Western Suburb Magpies. I really liked him as a player but has he got enough experience as a coach to take over a team with top 4/5 ambitions? Or should at least be in the mix for trophies?

Look what Mike Maguire did at Wigan!

In all fairness to Maguire, he was an assistant at Canberra Raiders reserve grade under Mal Meninga in the early 2000's before being promoted to assistant of the first team. Then in 2004 he joined Melbourne as the assistant to Craig Bellamy, went through all their success with them in the late 2000's and took the reigns of Melbourne when Bellamy was on NSW duty. Was touted for Brisbane job in 2008 to succeed Wayne Bennett. Then finally got a head coach job at Wigan in 2010.

He'd had nigh on 10 years working under Mal Meninga, Matthew Elliott and Craig Bellamy all at pretty big clubs. So he had a lot of pedigree before getting the Wigan job, and don't forget it was a Wigan team that wasn't as dominant as it was or is now either.

Hodgson just doesn't have that background at the moment. So just wondering if maybe it's a bit early for him to take a big job such as Hull. There's expectation there now that wasn't there say 10 years ago. I for one hope he does brilliantly, hate to see coaches fail and I really liked him as a player too. One of the best fullbacks to have played over here. Safe as houses.

Just what is needed at Hull. An untried coach with no previous 1st grade coching experience.

Pearson is a clown and only has him self to blame if this goes terribly wrong.
No doubt he will ensure someone else is the fall guy.

Well he's never had a club be relegated or go into administration.

if he coaches as good as he played then they have a bloody good coach, as some point new coaches have to be found don't see this as poor call

he is clearly seeing us as a stepping stone to the top jobs in the NRL, if we get3-6 good years from him I'll be quite happy. one thing he will do is break the 'Club Hull' culture, he will, pick players on merit, not the post code on their birth certificate. With Purtill and Ellis at his side I am sure they will continue what Andy Last started. I feel sorry for Andy, but I never felt he was the man for the job, AP is being kind saying he has offered Andy another role, but I suspect Andy will leave Hull and go on to coach elsewhere.
