PEREZ SPEAKS......“The response over here has been pretty big. When we started in Toronto, it’s a huge city, so it took a long time. But now in Toronto, most people know the Wolfpack as the rugby team and you see merchandise there. With Ottawa it was like that from day one, everyone knew the Aces were the rugby team. The fact we did Toronto meant it became more prominent and word travelled faster.”
Mr Perez gave Toronto a name check as above thanking his former club for their trail blazing, opening up Canada to further RL expansion. Ottawa have Frayssinous in place apparently with ten players lined up to sign on to erm.......
A repeat of the successfull TWP journey
If as Perez says Ottawa are now able to follow Argyles trailblazing lead, where exactly does that lead them? I know Perez has been asked and he's pretty much "move along nothing to see" but at some time he needs to be honest about his ambitions. To be fair he says this....
"Perez hopes to head off the criticism that has come Toronto’s way by striving to include Canada-born players from the start of their journey. He said: “I think it’s important that we can actually develop our own players on both sides of the pond, in the UK and Canada".
I wish any real expansion all the luck in the world, but talk is cheap, and I am sure it's now vital for Ottawa not just to dig into Canada RL for players but also the USARL. We must remember at the World cup the USA team contained home grown players and if they can get on a pitch with international teams fielding professionals and survive......Then that is surely where Ottawa must go for players...The USARL and not here?
