They should sell out to Sky!

Glad they've gone bust personally, can have NRL back rather than watching awful streams.

News Corp. didn't waste any time gloating about this one, though I agree that it isn't good a good scenario for some football clubs. Imagine the situation Super League would be in now if it switched to Setanta as many on RLFANS suggested when it arrived on the UK scene a couple of years ago.

Although the production quality of Setanta's own programmes is not on a par with its slicker counterparts, I think some of its shows are more insightful than those elsewhere. Whatever you think about Steve Bunce, his boxing hour is the best/only round up TV. The most excellent punmeister James Richardson is on fire at the moment. And it treats MMA as a reputable and reportable sport.

This is without mentioning the loss of the Australian rugby league shows and SoO & NRL coverage. I'm not confident that Sky will pick up what is left behind by Setanta bar the football coverage it is allowed to get on the cheap.

I wish everyone would read bramleyrhino's post two or three times just to get it through some thick skulls

Mr bramleyrhino speaks a lot of sense.

Didn't Setanta recently sign up Rugby Union too?

They already hold Magners League coverage.

They had agreed a shared rights deal with Sky for the Guinness Premiership: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/de ... ship-rugby

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.;

This is not good for our sport or any sport, this will drive prices down.

The Beeb have no money and ITV are not far off in the bankrupt steaks either leaving only Sky. You can bet they will now drive down the price paid as I know Sky have also suffered from the cut backs from people either cancelling or reducing the package they buy.

I bet football clubs are crapping themselves as they will lose Setanta money and only Sky is left in the market place for there product. Sky will maybe force a re setting of the prices now as the Setanta matches will become available by default.

And that, my friend is capitalism.... :wink:

Have you ever thought that maybe the various sports have been ripping off the broadcasters???... 8)

I honestly hope this sends a few sports clubs down the pan, a la Leeds United, as it always seems to me that a few of them, mostly Football clubs, are run in a scandalous manner.

How, in an open auction, could any sport be accused of ripping off the broadcaster?
