If I'm allowed as a 'Fax fan to comment I'd like to relate my recent (tea-time today0 experience of The Karachi.
The place was my introduction to the "authentic Bradford curry experience" more years ago than i care to remember, but i hadn't been for at least 4-5 years, going by tonight's experience it will be a lot longer until my next visit.
The starters should have served as a warning. Ordered the "mixed starter" and yes it was. The Pakora/onion bargee (can never really tell the difference) was passable but much more garram to onion than i recall. the (shami?) kebab however was scorched to within an inch of it's life.
However the "quality" of the starters palled into insignificence when compared with the mains. We had a Meat bhuna plus a Meat/Channa something or other. Absolute garbage, we both agreed that the meat had a burnt taste to it and had clearly been introduced to the sauce a the last possible moment. And yes I do know that this common practice but it's usually done with a lot more skill. All in all a very poor offering, not improved by the sight of a kitchen assistant appearing to be engaged deep frying the chicken tikka between wiping his nose on his sleeve.
Just goes to prove that you can't live on your memories, or your previous reputation.
See you SL XVI
