The Academy team continued on with a tremendous win today v South Sydney, this was the Rabbitohs 2018 SG Ball team so they would have been u17 and turning 18 next year.
So that means the previously mentioned Welsby and Simm are playing against older opposition but they have been absolutely outstanding.

I think the Saints players are a mixture of 16 and 17, the better players such as the previously mentioned Welsby, Simm & Foster are 16.

It is pretty sad that the vast majority of these kids will never make the first team, and some may be good enough but going for positions that are taken up for years or by bigger names even if they are trailblazers they cannot get a shot.

This is why the whole academy system needs scrapping. Clubs should not be anywhere near these lads until they are at least 18. Keep them playing at there community clubs until then. Some of the younger academy lads might only play 1 or 2 games in the next 12 months and we wonder why they don’t develop.

Nice to see some of the younger names previously mentioned in the previous posts from last years Academy tour to Australia getting a mention of good things they did in the Catalans Academy game. Sounds like an Excellent start to the season. :CLAP:

Saints have a real gem in Welsby, there is something about him that sets him apart. Noticed today in the reports that Lewis Dodd almost single handedly destroyed Cas in the Scholarship game.
