Rogues can be a very naughty boy at times but i fully agree with him that a lack of an U21's/23's is beyond daft. Very few young players have reached their potential by 19, especially in the forwards
Unfortunately certain chairmen have been very shortsighted and theres very little the few well run clubs can do to change this while they're in the minority.
I'm sure i read somewhere that the chairmen voted to axe the U23's as it would save £50k a year. That's chicken feed, 200 odd season tickets or about 2000 single tickets, Christ they probably make that on Beer in one game, all to support the clubs future stars!!!!!

Wasn't Wigan one of the ones who voted in favour of removing u23s?

No idea, i'd be surprised though. Wigan , Saints and Leeds know the value of great academy sides and its well north of £50k/yr

St Pete the lad plays for Leigh East U14s. True story I once got in touch with Mike Rush over a lad playing for Rochdale Kevin Whatskonda was his name. Very fast and strong. Told Mike that id talked to his mum n dad n that saints would be a great fit for him. Mikes reply was that the kid is a huge Leeds fan and Barrie Mcdermott was keen on taking him to leeds so there was NO point talking to him. 2 weeks later he signed for......... Wigan. Been unfortunate with injuries the kid

I think Leeds were surprisingly one of the sides that voted to do away with it. Saints and Wigan were both in favour of keeping the u23s, if I remember correctly.

Tempted to sticky this and keep it updated with junior section news when possible. What do people think?

LFC Saint would you be able to provide updates whenever possible if it's not already been mentioned?

There were two competitions. The u18's and the u20's. An u23's competition never existed.

A decision was taken to scrap both and replace it with an u19s league. The two clubs that voted against this where Saints and Warrington. I specifically remember a piece on boots-n-all about this featuring both Gary Hetherington and Mike Rush. As usual, Gary Hetherington was talking utter nonsense but he's from Leeds so he must be right. It has spectacularly backfired.

Oh, and the under 15s league was scrapped aswell, leaving a group of players at every club with no games to play in for a full season.

Yeah mate no problem go watching Scholarship home and away and see a lot of amateur rugby involving some of the lads on scholar. I think it's a good idea to sticky, i know lads at 15 and 16 are not the finished article but a lot of these lads do make first grade. Matty Fozard, Greg Richards, Lewis Charnock, Luke Thompson and Andre Savelio for example where all in the same u15 and u16 teams. Good to keep an eye out for the up coming talent.

I was watching them other week? What position ?

Leigh East had two good second rows both with head gear on and good fullback

Yeah I've seen him before I think, he's a very frequent try scorer if it's the lad I think it is?
