Guitar driven rock with a 70's feel. Occult doom. Think Blue Oyster Cult.

I'll check some of these out. I'm just getting back into listening to new music for the first time in years. I used to be massively into indie stuff but got hugely bored with the whole thing about ten years ago - particularly bands that were 'NME cool' but generally awful.

I really didn't know how much I missed the experience of hearing a great song for the frst time. I'm also too old to be such a snob, and have found some bands I used to 'hate' to have produced a couple of songs I actually quite like.

If you like your music to sound like the Chipmunks have entered the Eurovision Song Contest then I can recommend BabyMetal.
I’ve always liked my music to be a little bit unusual and this has met that criteria.
Not for everyone but certainly making my car trips better just by listening to my own attempts to sing along.
Sometimes say nothing!!!

Sounded good in the early 70's.
Is guitar driven a newish term?

If you have a listen to a band called Kadavar (from Berlin) you will instantly hear the main sound been so-called "guitar driven".

I don't think its a new term but one of the many genres and sub genres that some writers use to categorise the differing sounds in rock and metal music.

Here are some of the main themes:-

Acid ,Alternative, Black, Blues, Breakcore, Celtic, Christian, Country, Crossover, Crunkcore, Crust punk, Dark metal, Deathcore, Doom Metal, Deathgrind, Electric, Emo, Experimental, Extreme, Folk metal, Funk, Glam, Gothic rock, Grindcore, Groove, Grunge, Hard, Indie, Industrial, Instrumental, Krautrock, Latin, Mathcore, Medieval, Melodic, Metalcore, Neo-classical, New Wave of American Heavy Metal, New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Noise pop, Nu metal, Pagan, Pop punk, Post-metal, Post-rock, Power, Progressive, Psychedelic, Punk rock, Rap metal, Rock and roll, Rockabilly, Screamo, Shock rock, Ska, Skate, Sludge, Soft rock, Southern, Space, Speed, Stoner, Surf, Swamp, Symphonic, Technical, Teutonic, Thrash, Trad, Viking.
