There's certainly question marks over a couple of players fitness-wise. It looks better than this year on paper - but I thought we looked OK to go for 2022 and we know what happened there.... MacDonald is the only new first choice in the backs but the pack looks a lot more tasty. The other big difference is that our squad is bigger. While a lot of the new boys are unknown quantities at least we don't look one injury away from disaster, except maybe at halfback where we still look very light on. We also shouldn't have to flog any of the forwards to death.

Thats what i would go with.I expect Holroyd to push hard for a place upfront.I also think like others Gannon will be rested more this year so McDonnell is the obvious choice to then fit in.I cant believe yu didnt have Olpherts in your 17 lol

Oledzki out for 12 - 14 weeks after an operation on a shoulder injury he's been carrying since the back end of the SL season, and Hooley out for up to 12 weeks for an injury sustained in training. Nothing we can do about the latter, but can't get my head around how we can lose a prize asset for at least the 1st month of the season on the back on an injury we new about in September or before.

Mik probably wanted a shot at the England team (unlike Lomax who played the GF then pulled out). In hindsight he didn't really get a crack and could have had it earlier.

Maybe. Or could be a case of trying physio first before plumping for the op when that failed.

Surely he`s been having physio on it for most of last season anyway and should have expected it needed an op once the World Cup was over.
That being the case 12-14 weeks plus getting match fit would make him available at the latest start of March end of Feb if lucky.
If we`ve waited until now it doesn`t make sense.

this, i'd rather as a club we didnt force him to get the op if it meant him missing out on the international selection he fully deserved

World Cup or not, leaving it another four weeks to have the operation is counter productive. Mik wanted to play in the WC and the club respected that - no problem. Leaving it till weeks after the end of the comp does us no favours.

I see your point but i doubt anyones delayed it for no reason, most likely the op was had as soon as it became clear it was necessary? unless someones said otherwise?
