I sort of went off Walker early in his career when Golding was at the club.
Walker basically said if I don`t get the number 1 shirt I`m off and to my understanding held the club to ransom.
I`ve since realised his attitude then was/is similar to Newman who has that belief to be the best and the arrogance to go with it.
Main difference is that Newman does have the ability whereas I never saw that in Walker.
If we do deregister him doesn`t that mean he no longer is getting paid which is harsh.

No of course it doesn't. It just means he is no longer on the salary cap. But there's really tight rules around it and he in theory can't play that season.

The main issue with Walker, as with Sutcliffe, was the length of contract they received. We absolutely need to honour them once they're signed, but those really long deals play havoc with the making changes under the salary cap.

Really gutted for the lad.. He's been superb for us since coming in and would have been delighted to see us sign him permanently.

The thing is that players like newman, walker, Watkins are pure athletes and the force put on their joints etc leaves them more prone.

So he gets paid and it doesn`t count on the cap.
Not sure why he would pack it in then if he`s getting paid for a year.

I guess the issue on his future is whether he can face all the hard work required to get back to playing, only to face the real risk of breaking down again? At some stage he may feel that its just too hard. I genuinely hope not and that this latest injury is relatively minor, but he won't be the first or last player forced to retire early.

Having said that, I can't see him being at Leeds beyond next season under any scenario. He's third choice fullback if Hardaker stays, and even if he gets fit he may well get loaned out for long periods rather than mess around in the reserves. If we sign Hooley on top of that its hard to see him getting picked at all. Things may change and we may not keep Hardaker or bring in Hooley, but Smith seems pretty set on getting the squad to come into line with what he wants rather than trying to work around players he doesn't. Which lets be honest is exactly what's been needed for years (along with a coach with a plan...).
