There's a huge difference between making a panic signing to keep the club afloat in the Middle 8s and making a signing to plan for a (hopefully) new SL campaign. Sinfield and co. will be determined to set high standards of professionalism, and Hock's name simply doesn't fit with that, especially after the recent experiences with Hardaker. Sure, Hock may well be a reformed character these days, but if there's even a whiff of trouble it will reflect poorly on the new coaching set-up at Headingley and there will be plenty of people to say 'I told you so'.
I have no idea which 'enforcer' will protect our younger players, as you suggest. Hock would be a poor choice for such a role, however, given his long history of losing control with officials, and propensity to be wound up by other players. A bit more nastiness in the forwards might not be a bad thing, but we don't need 'personalities' with an unprofessional history like Hock IMO.
