Perhaps these 'teams' were so good they didn't need an actual coach to give them a direction but supposing a coach can make a difference which one of Lance, Powell, Smith, McClennan, McDermott would get the best out of them (given the millenium range) or if extending it to the SL Era that would allow Bell and Murray to join the list.

Regardless of the 'best' seventeen I would want Tony Smith - if restricted to the millenium - and Graham Murray if extended to the full nineteen year SL Era.

I'd take Mcdermott.

You mad?

I'm surprised that there hasn't been more mention of Dave Furner, one of the best back rowers we have seen at Leeds, certainly in this Millennium. If we are going back to the days of ET like some have suggested you can't fail to mention Eric Grothe, completely under utilised by the coach of the day but one of the best wingers ever to put on a Leeds shirt. I know this will spark debate over some older wingers eg. Alan Smith but still Grothe by a mile for me

I was thinking Furner myself and he was superb for us the couple of seasons we had his services.but we have been blessed with some superb back rowers over the last 15 years who have given us much longer service whilst picking up more silverware.you simply have to find a place for Ellis,JJB and Ali imo.

Same here.i feel Muzza was the most gifted amongst that group but its all personal opinion, all 4 were/are successful in their own right and differ greatly in their methods.

Just to add when i say 4 im referring to murray/smith/bluey/mac. Lance was a disaster and powell did fine in his limited time at the helm but was just holding the fort until Smith came along.

The inexperienced (but no doubt comparatively cheap) Daryl Powell was initially given a three and a half year deal by his RL surrogate father and had the head coaches role for all but the final year of the deal which IIRC he spent as the new guy's line manager - in theory if not in actual practice.

Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.

How about Smith as coach, but Bluey to do all TV interviews?

Dream combination.
