COULD Kumuls prop Makalie Aizue be the most naturally gifted forward on the planet? There were plenty of raised eyebrows this week when The Daily Telegraph ran a yarn suggesting the hulking PNG prop had never visited a gym in his life. However, his Hull KR teammates have since confirmed Aizue only took up weights at the start of this year when he arrived at the English Super League club. Initially, the shy Islander was too embarrassed to lift more than other players and quietly insisted his maximum for both a bench press and squat was 100kg. But Rovers players hounded him. Demanded more. And within a fortnight Aizue's bench press had almost doubled while his squats hit a whopping 250kg. The 99kg Adonis is also said to be the quickest Super League forward over 20m. And as for endurance . . . well, when he flies back home to PNG the easy-going superstar walks for two days to reach his village. |
