Noble should not be at Wigan in 2010 : Sun Aug 09, 2009 11:48 am
We have over the last three seasons finished with a similar record in the league and have reached a few semi finals but have frozen in all of them and lost as a consequence. This inability to win even one semi makes a mockery of claims he knows how to coach in big games.
To my mind this is the level at which Noble can take us and he cannot take us further. He has had plenty of time to mould the squad to fit his purpose and has done so with no advancement. Losing narrowly at the end of the day is still losing so not getting thumped but still losing is not enough improvement.
We are told we are going with the same squad next season so the squad will have the same strengths and weaknesses. Most fans agree that the squad is not that far off being competitive and that we should do better with the players we have. Though many may want the likes of Fielden, Feka, Riddell and Roberts to go immediately they are here for next season at least and that will not change.
The one thing we can change is the coach as we have the option of letting him go. In my opinion we need to let him go, even should this mean having a caretaker for next season if the right man can only come in 2011. We aren't winning trophies and can't be relegated so would have little to lose with a stop gap. As someone said on another thread Noble will go now or at the end of 2010 so continuity with him is a dead duck. Having a new coach whether permanent or caretaker next year with the same squad will show us as a club whether the squad is up to the task or whether the coach is doing the best he can with a poor squad. Having a new coach will also allow us to see whether the likes of Feka and Fielden can improve given new coaching ideas and methods and thus whether they should stay or go. Look at the difference a new coach has made to Mathers.
Noble has to go and then we can start to build immediately for next season and for 2011 and beyond.
