The RFL 'rules committee ' seem to have sorted out the obstruction rule, hope it works!

I was hoping that they would bring in the tap restart from a 40-20, the seven tackles from a kick going over the dead ball line and the clock stopping after a conversion attempt in the last five minutes to prevent time wasting. All of which were used in the NRL last season.

Having read the new obstruction rule it may be clearer for referees to implement but its clear as mud to me . I dont think terms like "sweep runner" "lead runner" and "inside shoulder " are in the average supporters vocabulary and I consider myself to be an average supporter. Perhaps we need Stevo to explain it .....oops perhaps ive already had too much Christmas spirit.

Briefly:
Lead runner = first support runner to go through the gap on the outside of the ball player, often runs an unders line (angled back towards the PTB)
Liam Farrell runs this line and role for wigan

Sweep Runner = the second runner who takes the ball from the ball player,behind the lead runner. runs a slightly lateral line across field before straightening up to draw a defender and either passing to another lead runner or another sweep runner.
Blake Green ran this line for Wigan with Sam Tomkins often being the 2nd sweep.

Inside shoulder = almost always the defenders shoulder closest to the PTB
Outside shoulder = almost always the defenders shoulder furthest away from the PTB
I'm not going to try and explain when an inside/outside shoulder isn't as described above because it's going to sound complicated and would confuse everything.

Referee's equipment now consists of a whistle, watch, cards & a gps tracker to check new obstruction rule.

Seems to me that all they've done with the obstruction rule is clarify the interpretation to what it should have been along i.e to give a penalty for obstruction, someone has to have actually been obstructed.

Is that about right?
