It was said on this forum a few weeks ago that Wane said that Wigan will play a slightly different style of Rugby next season, has anyone got any suggestions what he was hinting at?.
Could it have anything to do with Wigan thinking that they were penalised more than other teams due to the clamping down on the obstruction rule and thereby the "famed Wigan structure" was being reined in?.
If that is the case is he thinking of playing a more open game and by that I mean giving the halfbacks more licence to open the game up, thereby giving our pacey three quarters more chances?.
Finally can anything be gleaned from this regarding the squad No's given and the squad taken to Florida?.

Good Morning Brian , hope you are well ?I was in the Company of Mr Wane and another former Wigan great last week , Shaun said he is very happy with the squad for the coming season , and the Florida trip will be no holiday for them .

I'm wondering if we'll use a more traditional halfback structure whereby Smith really controls things across the whole pitch and Williams/Powell turns up a bit wider and takes the line on a bit more. We need to move away from relying on Lockers too much as well IMO or we'll struggle when he retires or injuries/fatigue seriously curtail the number of games he plays. On the plus side we should have a far improved set of props and three quarters so there shouldn't be any problem with field position.

Where is the improvement coming from in the three quarters?

Gelling and Sarginson! They have only both been first choice since late June and improved massively in that time, before that we were persevering with Goulding who had a bad season. Thornley picked up games as well but generally went ok

I myself think it will be more traditional play from the halfbacks, one of the most striking changes from the norm (swinging it along the line every time)happened last season against Salford.

Sam Powell received the ball from the play the ball and ran a bit left as if to move the ball along the line, George Williams suddenly ran slightly against the grain before getting a good short pass from Sam. With the Salford cover already starting to slide across this let George through, he still had a great deal to do but something different had happened which led to a great halfbacks try. These little subtle changes in halfback play leads to uncertainty in any defence.

I think there'll also be a greater emphasis on the offload. This is probably the area where we have the most room for improvement and, as New Zealand showed in the 4 Nations, when used well it can be a very effective weapon.

I agree. I think Madge virtually banned it. Waney seemed to carry that on. We haven't had a forward who regularly offloads since Hock.

A little more freedom to offload might give opposition teams a bit more to think about next season, and it IS more exciting to watch.

Agree again with the idea we might start to offload a lot more in 2015.
Tautai is known for his offload and Lockers certainly has the skills. We now also have real pace up the middle. Clubb and Parick must be some of the fastest props in SL. Williams in at 6 again gives real pace up the middle. When Hampshire plays, that again will give even more pace and if from the offload it could be devastating.
The team scored most tries in SL last season with most comimg from the outside backs.
This coming season could see attacks both from the middle as well as from out wide.
Really looking forward to 2015 season.

Joel Tomkins has a good offlload as well iirc
