Aussie Schools Tour : Fri Nov 28, 2014 3:27 pm
For those of you who want to miss the Christmas shopping, Wigan Academy take on Aussie Schools at Orrell at 12 noon tomorrow Saturday 29th November.

I'm led to believe that this is one of the best young Aussie sides that have ever toured here and include a couple of Greg Inglis like/size monsters.

They then play Leeds on the 2nd December before the two test matches at Leigh.

Game 1 is on Sat 6th December 2 p.m Kick off
Game 2 is on Fri 12th December 7 p.m. kick off

Should be well worth watching.

Edit
The Aussies started their tour with an 86 - 6 win over The Regional Academy in Workington on Wednesday.

Re: Aussie Schools Tour : Sat Nov 29, 2014 3:18 pm
Great entertainment Wigan 18 - Aussies 36

The score does not represent the game. Wigan lost four players through injury in the first half and then another two in the first ten minutes of the second half. At that point it was still 18 - 6 for Wigan. Unlimited interchanges were used and the Aussies made five at once and kept on making them. Wigan ran out of numbers (no subs available) and when you see the size of some of these Aussie players you will understand why the game got away from Wigan late on.

#1 Mitchell is a very dangerous runner, big strong, fast and elusive #8 Host had a great game, #11 Leilua is a monster, a real handful #6 Lamb kicked them from all over the place.

Ryan Sutton was outstanding for Wigan and my m.o.m.

I would advise any RL supporter to get down to Leigh for the next two games I'm really looking forward to it.

Re: Aussie Schools Tour : Sat Nov 29, 2014 4:08 pm
Injuries definitely told on Wigan although the officiating took me back to Aussie tours of old (good job Fulton isn't the Aussie coach!). In the end the second half was 30 - 0 and the Aussies were a man down for ten minutes.

Also not sure that the Aussies were physically that dominant, I thought the Wigan team matched them toe to toe, probably helped by playing a few players from the year group above. Doran was definitely my Wigan man of the match.

I thought the Aussies might had shown a bit more skill in the halfs but once number 20 started to get then going forward more directly it was pretty much one way traffic.

Good way to spend an afternoon and a good crowd in there.

Re: Aussie Schools Tour : Mon Dec 01, 2014 1:40 pm
Wigan finished with two players with broken leg/ankle, one with a broken jaw, one with a bad shoulder injury, one with concussion and one with a bad hip injury. It was a tough game including an old fashioned all in brawl, but you wouldn't class it as particularly dirty.

As I said get down to Leigh next Saturday for the first test match. I hope England have picked some BIG forwards otherwise I fear they'll get mullered.

Three of the 1st year lads have suffered bad injuries. Jack Wells broken jaw, Max Dudley broken collarbone and Josh Woods concussion (his one and only touch of the ball as he scored)

** Reminder**

Game kicks off at 2 p.m today at Leigh.
I believe that Toby King has been selected to start in the centre for England.

Good luck to all the England lads, it's going to be difficult against what is an outstanding Aussie side.
Watch out for Latterell Mitchell, Brock Lamb and Luciano Leilua all superb players plus prop forward Jacob Host who impressed me at Orrell last week.

Game finished England 18 Australia 22.
Mitchell scored two superb tries for the Aussies and Lamb was my m.o.m.

England had their chances but put far too much ball down particularly in the 20 metre zone when attacking. Toby King was my England m.o.m. Ollie Davies had a good game before going off injured and I thought the young London scrum half Joe keyes went well, however the England pack was dominated by the bigger Aussies.
