To me this is such a non issue - millions of people support Chelsea (for example) and they don't have more than two English played in their first team - and I mean English, not Londoners or from the borough of Chelsea - they seem too do quite well.
Also Owen,Smith and Kirmond are products of the area and could just as easily player as juniors at Wakey - so in these cases we got our men in the end, does it really matter how it happens. In the meantime the ranks of some SL clubs and many many lower league clubs have had been much improved by ex Wakefield juniors - job done.
I tend to agree on this. The spirit of the original rule is being forgotten.
The point was to make sure the young players are protected from having overseas/kolpac players taking their place unfairly and limiting their development.
The other rules help with that.
What happens now if none of our youth team are good enough for Super League. Do we have to keep 7 and just sit them their, even though we have money to go get others.
Of course it isn't that big an issue to us as we aren't in a position to go buying big anyway, so the youth is a good way to go, but if we do develop, and they then get picked up by other teams, how does a club like Wakefield keep finding another group to put in the squad?
