Loaning Players : Thu Nov 13, 2014 8:16 pm
Wigan have now loaned Hughes to Huddersfield and Burke to HKR both on season long deals.
It is rumoured that Taylor may go on a loan deal and possibly Dudson too.

Nothing has been mentioned in the announcements as to whether these players will be allowed to play against us but I hope not. Hock is the only one I know that has had an embargo placed preventing him taking the field against us but plenty others have not and played.

I do think as the League is going to be so tight for a top four place that we should in future place an embargo on any loan player playing against Wigan. The last thing we need is someone like Jack Hughes scoring a winning try for Hudds and knocking us out of the top placings.
Taylor is an immense player, to allow him to play against us is just plain nonsense.

Many will remember us loaning Kev Brown to Hudds in 2006. He scored a try that put them in front when we were bottom of the league. For 15-20 mins it looked like we could go further bottom towards relegation and our own player had done it. Thankfully we scored and won the game.
Ever since then I've thought we should not allow loaned players to oppose us.

I do hope that in future the club will prevent loaned players opposing us in either Super League or the Challenge Cup.

Re: Loaning Players : Thu Nov 13, 2014 9:10 pm
I disagree, going down this route will allow squads to be signed and banned from playing for against the club that has them on the books. Teams who have lesser squads would then be penalised against the bigger teams as a result where their loan and possibly best players that can't get in the owning teams squad are removed. The loan system should not allow the banning of players in a game against the source club.

If the loan players can't make the grade then they shouldn't be a threat in the first place.

However, in the Kev Brown example there's a dilemma where this could happen - would the fans or club want that player back? If not and the player wants to get back, would they then play a lesser game against the source club?

Why? That's a ridiculous argument. So you loan players to aid their development or get you out of a hole in your salary cap but stipulate when they can/can't play. if you are that afraid of a player hurting you then surely you shouldn't be loaning them in the first place?

We have a large squad full of talented players and because of the lack of a reserve team or A team then players can't get experience unless loaned out. It doesn't mean they aren't good enough to play for us. I agree, it seems daft to me to loan a player out then allow him to play against us. He's still our player, so he should sit out for these two games a season if we insist. Why allow the opposition a better chance of beating us?

Thankfully it looks as if Taylor has actually signed for Salford - for one year, so presumably we get a fee. A very strange move as he's obviously committed to playing for Hull in 2016. As an example of how to plan a career it is one of the oddest I've seen. I hope Hull is everything he desires when he finally gets there. Sometimes in life, you have to be careful what you wish for. No doubt he will hope that his part in the double winning season isn't a career high. Sad to peak so early.

I was hoping they'd look again at the principle of reserves & under 21/19 (whatever) squads to help keep players close by. It's all well & good loaning out to get game time, but do we have immediate recall in case we have another spell of long-term injuries?
And the premise of the OP is bonkers, Hock being the exception (I suspect that was perhaps a little insurance in case he decided a red card was worth doing serious damage to someone). Unless it's a principle of being cup-bound, what gives us the right to dictate when or where someone plays. If we were paying the wage, maybe.
(and it appears Taylor's citing family for leaving & wanting to go back to 'ull. So why go 20 miles in the opposite direction? Finances on the east coast?)

Re: Loaning Players : Wed Nov 19, 2014 5:57 pm
If you're willing to loan a player to a team in the same competition then you should lose all and any privileges to that player for the length of the loan. The reasoning is irrelevant, he is not your player for the duration of the loan.

Taylor situation has been done to death. Nobody else (including Wigan) will put up with him for a year before he goes home. He won't look back too fondly on this part of his career, and probably the subsequent years he spends there, he's NRL class.
