How many of those clean breaks led to tries?
He's still raw and some of the things he gets criticised for should be sorted out with experience, however the thing I have a problem with in regards to Gelling is his finishing. He runs it hard, straight and aggressive when taking the ball in to give the forwards a rest, which is why his metre stats are generally one of the best in most games, but give him open space or the try line at his mercy and his doesn't back himself in the same way.
Agreed. He's a hard worker, with a good attitude, which is presumably why Waney is sticking with him, but his main problems are a lack of pace, poor handling and often poor judgment. Those can be learned/coached, and I agree he's got bags of potential, my view is that he should be learning those skills elsewhere, at present.
He's had a dozen games now, yet Thornley, on debut, (and also out of position, don't forget!) was at least as good, if not better than him.
