Oxford Rugby League have completed the signing of hooker Wes Newton. Newton is no stranger to professional rugby league as he has represented Harlequins U20's and made his debut against Hull U20's in 2010. He has a wealth of experience at such a young age and his previous club's include Myton Warriors, South London Storm, Elmbridge Eagles and most recently the Oxford Cavaliers. He also has representative honours with Yorkshire Under 19's, South England Students and the Great Britain Student Pioneers. On being offered a contract with the club Wes said " I am really excited to be joining Oxford RL, they have a great vision in making Rugby League big in Oxford and I am happy that I can be a part of that. The club is great and are doing all they can to be a success on and off the field which is fantastic. I am looking to try and give Tony Benson a few headaches in team selection by putting myself out there and improving all aspects of my game. Playing regular in the first team would be a great achievement for me and a challenge I look forward to facing."
Tony Benson Oxford head coach said "Wes is a local player, and came to the trials last year but was out of condition. He's come back this year in shape and has shown that he has a lot of skill and experience, He has been with the Broncos Academy and I'm sure he will be dangerous this year."
