The Last Try : Sun Nov 23, 2014 6:30 pm
Ladies and gentlemen especially parents of kids at junior school. Last Monday saw the launch by Hull libraries of a book called The Last Try. It has been written by Tom Palmer a children's author of some good standing. It's based on the life of Jack Harrison VC.
It is aimed at younger readers as all Tom's books are, but is certainly a great read for people of any age if you have an interest in history and also our local hero.
Priced £6.99 I believe and available from Hull libraries and also I hope soon to be available from the club shop. This would make a great stocking filler for any reader.
The book is based on actual records and is a fictional account of Jack's life.
I have just spent the weekend with Tom and despite him being a Leeds fan he is a genuinely nice bloke, who loves Hull. He has written about sport and world war 1 amongst other topics. His aim is to engage young people in reading especially boys who tend to struggle with reading. I'm sure many of you will have heard of him as he is often visiting primary schools in and around Hull.
Check out his website to Tompalmer.co.uk
I am not an agent of his so have no vested interest other than to simply spread the word about a book which has more than a passing interest for all Hull fans and the people of the East Riding in general.
