When Guus Hiddink was in charge of the Socceroos, he was also PSV Eindhoven manager. Though admittedly most of the Aussie soccer team played in Europe. However, he also refused to live in Turkey when he was manager of their national team.

I seem to recall Terry Venables was still doing something with an English club when he was Australia manager too.

Nonesense. One might be tempted to agree with Morriseyisawire that the England coach should be based in the UK, however, he's not. It would be a preposterous waste of money for him to have flown back to the UK only to return a few days later with the players. I also agree that the coach did enough in the World Cup to have lost the popular fruit nickname.

It's perfectly legitimate to question having a national coach over there, of course it is. What's ridiculous is saying that the RFL should waste a good £1,000 or so flying the bloke back only to get straight back on the same plane. They travelled business class and will have all been sat watching films etc, it's not like they'd be discussing tactics with him stood at the front.

McNamara held a teleconference the other day with the media, these days that is just as good as the real thing.

Should McNamara have insisted that Burgess x 2, Widdopp, Graham and Cooper all came back to England for a day as well?

I find a lot of the criticism of our national coaches way OTT. I'd understand it if we were clearly a match for Australia but kept losing, but far too few people want to admit that fundamentally too many players at our disposal are simply not as agood as their opponents.

Don't talk nonsense Brisbane. MacNamara leaving a hugely unnecessary carbon footprint would see Leroy Cudjoe instantly become better than Inglis. The RFL are a disgrace!
