This question is being asked on TotalRL forums and suggestions that if they haven't contacted Keighley then Keighley would have been shouting it from the rooftops. The inference being that the RFL have contacted Keighley without going public about it. If that is correct then that is wrong because this whole episode has involved several Championship clubs not just Keighley.
Actually it was me who suggested that, and l stand by it. If the RFL have not responded by the date that they actually set, then they deserve everything that is coming their way.

I have only been wrong once and thats because I thought I was wrong but I was wrong I was right!

Petty authoritarians aren’t man enough to challenge the actions of a person face to face; instead they incite a forum of rumour, innuendo and half truths, and impose rude sanctions to discourage those who dare question fairness.

Anon.

To be honest, that's adding 1+1 and getting 3.5.

I haven't heard a peep, but then I don't consider myself "in the know".

It could be that we are gathering our legal ammunition and serving an injunction on Monday morning ( part on me really wants this).

Or it could be that the Rfl have contacted Keighley privately and are offering us a one off never to be repeated lip smacking deal - let's face it they are a divisive bunch.

Or it could just be that they are just plunging their collective heads in the sand and hoping it all goes away. Let's face it, it's worked for them before! ;-)

There's much speculation and rumours on this matter but what are people's actual thoughts?

I would suspect that the rfl have contacted cougars and not released anything to the media.

I would expect them to have given cougars a blooming difficult double edge sword of options that when weighed up would undoubtedly make the option of relegation and a good cash payment too good to turn down.

Cougars would have been given a deadline on their decision/acceptance that would be needed before the fixtures were released tonight or the rfl would have turned to a default decision therfore putting pressure on the cougars to opt for their own downfall in double quick time

The rfl gave cougars the minutes for both meetings but they couldn't be published, this is exactly why I think the above, the rfl will I'm sure have the same clause, should the cougars ignore this and take the options public then the cougars would be bringing the game in to disrepute and be excluded from joining the leagues at all, after all, the consequences could be catastrophic to rl!

Sheffield shouldn't lose out if the above became factual but who's to say the rfl would have included an option to compensate Sheffield in the options proposed to cougars.

Whatever has gone on there's no way the other clubs, fans or media will be given the whole information and the full facts, it will most likely be that the rfl and the Keighley Cougars have made a private agreement to close the unfortunate and difficult matter that resulted in the relegation of the cougars.

well they're my thoughts, let's see who is closest to what happens and what makes the headlines in the next 24 hours

If this has happened and the outcome is going to be kept between Kly and the rfl.
Then the most important people. Us the fans have not only been let down by the rfl. We will have been let down by the club.
We the loyal fans who put our hard earned cash and time into following the team. Have a right to know whats going on.

I don't think an agreement will have been reached. I think the RFL are sticking to the decision and saying tough if you don't like this take us to court.

Point about the excluding from the league may have been used too IMO. If it has the club should release this info and say this is the reason why we wont contest it.

This has been on tv and looks so bad for the game and everyone agreed but here we are weeks later and nothing has changed. I will say this again how the hell can teams play players that are not allowed to be on that pitch and get away with it? Who the hell can make that decision? One of the worst i have ever seen in sport IMO.

If the RFL were saying "if you don't like it take us to court", how do you think the courts would view such an attitude?

I have to agree with Harry on this I can't believe the RFL have not been in contact with Keighley. Fawcett has hardly been backward at coming forward to the press throughout this saga, yet on D day, when an answer was supposed to be forthcoming all has gone silent.

It doesn't make any sense, but neither does the way he has conducted himself in this matter. The whole sorry affair hasn't done anyone any favours at all. The RFL look incompetent for not punishing any of the clubs that broke the rules, Keighley and Sheffield look petulant and unprofessional for dragging this episode through the press, writing to the games sponsors and MP's at the first opportunity, when surely a better approach would have been to sort this out privately with the RFL and only resulting to airing dirty laundry in press as the absolute last resort. It also looks poor and a little like sour grapes that all of this was done after the final game of the season had been completed and Keighley had been confirmed as relegated, rather than raising concerns immediately after the rules had been broken.

Whatever happens, we were completely innocent (as were Sheffield) but we have both suffered as a result of the RFL.

It is they who should be ashamed of the situation that they alone have created and not the Cougars and/or Sheffield.

Over to you the RFL!

Respond.
