Visit //www.geofflee.net for details of my novels 'One Winter', 'One Spring', 'One Summer' 'One Autumn' 'Two Seasons'. and "Three Good Years" All six feature Rugby League against a humourous Lancashire/Yorkshire background and are inspired by the old saying about work: "They could write a book about this place. It would be a best seller."

Bill Ashurst and Maurice Oldroyd : Tue Oct 21, 2014 5:31 pm
"Building the Family Game" is the biography of Maurice Oldroyd who was one of the key people involved in the development of amateur rugby league since the foundation of BARLA (British Amateur Rugby League Association) in 1973
He was the Association's first full time employee and played a major role in its development until his retirement in 2000. He also helped to build the amateur international game and in the book also describes the relationship between BARLA and the RFL.

"Tries and Prayers" is the biography of Bill Ashurst, whose career was often controversial. The book pulls no punches and includes details of the abuse he suffered as a child, playing for Wigan, Penrith and Wakefield Trinity, his relationship with Mike Stephenson, Vince Karalius and Alex Murphy, his family life and how discovering Christianity has changed him.

Both books are now on sale in the WH Smith store (now located in Trinity Walk), from Amazon, London League Publications at http://www.llpshop.co.uk and are also on Kindle.

Anybody got and read Bill's book yet ? Does he say much about his time at Wakefield.? I've got it but am saving it for a long plane trip I've got coming up, to while away the hours.

Not finished reading it yet, the Wakefield era starts at page 151 and I put it down about 175 and lent it to somebody, there is nothing controvertial in it about his time at Wakefield, I know it's his book and it's all about him but he really rams the point home everything on the field revolved round him and not his twelve assistants' as good a player as he was he gave all the credit to himself for everything and very little to his team mates' a bit disappointed with it personally, but that's just my own opinion.
