Why a 3 year deal?

I am simply flabbergasted! If he were a great and sought after player I could understand us securing his services for the long term but he's neither, far from.
What pressures were present when negotiating the deal that lead us to give him 3 years?

The upside is that we have a player for 3 years and that gives us some stability and continuity within the team.

The downside is we have Owen for 3 years, so far, in a Trinity shirt, he's been underwhelming at best and downright disinterested at worst.

I wouldn't have offered him anything but at most he'd have got a 1 year deal with an option for both parties to extend or discontinue.

I hope I am proved wrong, I'll support Owen as a Wakefield player as I do any other player in Trinity shirts , if he has a stormer Ill say so, praise his efforts and admit I'm wrong.

If the lad reads the Wakey board he'll be well impressed with your post, criticism choose which form you label it is just that criticism, but your post borders on character assassination, surely if your not happy with the signing which is plainly obvious, you should take your frustration out on the appropriate people that dictate policy at the club, he's here now for the next three seasons' whether we like it or not so surely the best thing to do for all concerned is to be positive and get behind him instead of showing so much hostility towards him, its nothing personal I've just used your post to highlight the negativity shown on this signing.

Seriously question...who do you suggest we should have signed instead?

Given his proven record, his size and strength and a season returning from a serious injury, who else could Wakefield Trinity, from the booty end of the table, be signing instead?

I saw effort and interestfrom Owen while he was here. And he can finish try's off.I don't see what the big issue is with this signing tbh. He's 24 probably best years ahead and he was solid enough for us coming on loan into a new environment while we were getting trashed week in week out.

Think we should judge him on next season when it comes.

He's not a world beater but lets give the guy a chance to show what he can do after a settled pre-season.

We can reflect on the 3 year contract be it good or bad when the time comes next season.

I guess I'm in the minority but I think its a good signing and I think Richie will show us next season what he is capable of.

The Club and Coach must have been happy with him to offer him a 3 year deal.
