Ok so we've gone with Owen. My next question is how can we afford Owen on a 3 year deal? Yet not be in a position to offer the likes of Kay, Walshaw etc deals. I doubt they'll have asked for more, in fact I'd wager Owen is on fairly large salary. Furthermore why should those lads play their hearts out and let's be fair here, I go to the majority of games and can't recall them ever giving less than 100%, and be expected to watch certain other players get paid a higher amount to look disinterested!

Like yourself I only know what I'm told and also like yourself I can only speculate, It's been said on here that Owen was offered a three year deal as against a two year deal with the same amount of money spread over three instead of two years' who knows? but I dare bet that where they might have broken the bank for Timmy Owen will not have been afforded the same level of negotiations and treated the same, the problem is the club put a valuation on these younger players' which they can afford to pay and if other clubs' are prepared to pay more for them and their agents' are encouraging them to take the higher offer because they not only looking after their clients' but themselves as well, These sort of problems' would not arise at certain other clubs' unfortunately we're not one of those, and imo that's the case with Walshaw and Kay, luckily for us young Crowther and Jowett have turned their back on other offers' and hopefully they will stay patient till their time comes and they get their chance.

Presumably you mean Lucas Walshaw which proves my point that unless your in the confidence from a club insider or you know the player personally, you can only speculate on these things.

One thing I will say, which is kind of repeating what vastman once said, is that more than one coach, and one chairman has made the same decision.
It's not like Walshaw and Kay or Wildie before him, and many before him, is being singled out by a coach who doesn't like them.

I personally thought Walshaw was worth a shout, same with Kay, but my view isn't the same as the coach, or the person doing the contracts. There are many reasons why we might not offer a contract to someone who appears to be a good prospect. Most nothing to do with what we see on the field, and few to do with personality clashes as somethink.

Season after season we have let average academy players go only to replace them with average Australians who must cost more because they just might turn out to be something special but once upon a time I am told a certain young lad called Ellis was an average academy player but turned out to be a GB player and a success for West's Tigers in Australia. Perhaps we should be holding on to the Kaye's and Walshaws instead of wasting money on long shots like Harry Sieka.

If I told you, I'd have to kill you!

I don't know where he will end up playing, that will no doubt be reflective on who else we may sign, injuries, form etc..., but I do know what I was told about where his intended position was, and wasn't in the halves!

Should have read the whole thread before replying, but yes, as I understood it!

Whether that ends up the case, who knows - and I don't! 8)

I seem to recall that there was an outcry when Danny Cowling left after one decent game- he was the next best thing since sliced bread!!
Well he hasn't lasted long a Halifax and has now joined Donny- Hardly an upward progression
As previously stated by others it is sometimes agents that turn players heads and do not do them any favours
As for Kay and Walshaw only time will tell

At this moment in time Doncaster are a step up from Halifax!
