This week: Four keys to a Rhinos win in the WCC

Re: Richie Myler : Sun Oct 19, 2014 8:29 pm
Typical British half-back of the last ten years. Comes through in a blaze of glory, gets hyped up, gets move to a big club and immediately regresses thinking he's made it.

Of the two players KR have signed from the Titans, one is earmarked to play centre rather than in the halves.

I'd say that's because too many people get fixated with the idea of halfbacks needing to be lightning fast. Support play is important, as is the ability to get through a gap, but a halfback with no kicking game or passing ability can never be a 'great' halfback IMO.

Nah it's all about speed as we keep getting told about with Sinfield. That's why Briers and Lockyer were rubbish too because of lack of speed. If teams put Kevin Penny and BJB at halfback they'd dominate because speed is the king for being a halfback. Had we switched Mark Calderwood to halfback a decade ago we'd have won every trophy on offer to us, FACT!

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

If you look at all the great half backs they had an ability to change pace over short distances - Lockyear had pace over a short distance, Iestyn without doubt the most gifted player in Leeds jersey in the SL had that. Comparing Sinfield to the likes of Thurston and Lockyear does him no favours!!

Someday, somewhere, today’s empires are tomorrow’s ashes.

When Myler was at Salford he was a terrific organiser with a very good kicking game, I remember a game at Headingley on Easter Monday that Salford won and Myler was superb, and controlled the game for 80 minutes, he looked like the complete scrum half. However, when he moved to Warrington he was playing a supporting role to Briers, and he's never been able to develop into the complete scrum half I thought he would, maybe now is the time to move to further his career, he's still only 24.

He wasn't though. We were seeing him every week, and scratching our heads wondering where this amazing player we kept hearing about was. He was being touted in the media (particularly on Radio Manchester) as the new Alex Murphy or the new Andrew Johns, but the player we were seeing was, at best, the new Danny McGuire.

He did play well that day, and was still a very promising player, but I think he was being massively over-hyped by certain sections of the media. I think most Salford fans were more disappointed by the loss of Stefan Ratchford later.

That bank holiday was controlled by James Child and very badly i'm afraid , Refs are not biased but he gave a good impression of it that day and virtually single handed gave Salford the victory

Yes. That must have been it. There's no other logical explanation.
