After losing Sam Tomkins and Pat Richards and making the GF again do you not think that the reason might be that the players Wigan have are quite good?

Wigan's return to form in time for the playoffs has coincided with Joel Tomkins return to the team. The defence has improved out of all recognition since he took over in the second row. I know it wasn't tested much the other week but take my word for it.

Having said that Wardle can count himself unlucky IMHO.

But it isn't Wigan playing in the 4 nations ..doesn't necessarily mean England will improve, like i said about Burgess, good player maybe but better than others in the same position and more worthy of an international call-up so soon ??

Re: Ferres only giant in England squad : Mon Oct 06, 2014 9:05 pm
tommy makinson must be gutted, he's been pretty good for 2/3 years now and never got a look in.

jerry has been pretty consistent for 2/3 years and never got a look in.

tom lineham was brilliant a year or 2 back and never got a look in.

you could pick 2 or 3 others, but burgess has one good season and he's in the squad because he plays for wigan, i don't deny he is a good player and has potential to be world class, but he shouldn't be picked because of his club colours after only 1 full season in the game.

Ferres just about deserves squad place, but will likely lose place in the 17. I've no problem with J.Tomkins being in. From the games I've seen, he's slotted straight back into league, adds size, aggression and no short amount of skill into the second row.

Burgess, again, I've got no drama with him being in. The lad looks quality. Pace, balance, strength and can finish. Makinson and jerry could have been picked, yes, but it's nip and tuck between the 3. Happy place to be for England.

Sarginson, not so sure, but there's not many in front of him. He doesn't look a natural centre, and doesn't get his winger away enough for me. But looks very strong, great athlete and very dangerous strike player. Quite similar to Cudjoe in many ways.

On balance, I quite like the squad. Which I find weird saying, as I don't rate macnamara at all.

Wardle plays for Scotland. He just didn't play for them last year due to injury.

Yes. Serious questions.

Do you think that if Steve McNamara asked he would turn them down? After all - he was born in Halifax (unless of course that's Halifax Nova Scotia - see what I did there?). Does he take his Scottish ancestry so seriously that he would turn down a tour to Australia?

yep, john kear had some nice things to say about him in his post match comments

looks like Scotland could very well qualify for the 4 nations with brough and wardle in the team, think the big one will be when they play France.. win that and they are in
