Almost upon us...
Before it starts though.....

What are your thoughts about MacBanana not flying out with the England squad?

Okay, I can see that it is convenient that MacBanana is already there for himself, but what sort of initial statement does it give out that he is not flying out with the team?

It's a full international and were always playing 2nd fiddle to Union....is it any wonder when we demonstrate a half hearted approach?

After all the good work done in the World Cup we do this!

Could you imagine what the papers would say if Roy Hodgson chose not to fly out to an international with the England team?

You want McNamara to fly in from Australia so that he can fly to Australia? I'm no fan of his but you're really giving him stick for that?

The complaint is as idiotic as the Macbanana tag which should now be banned!

I see your point but there also has to be an example set.

Yes he ought to have flown back to the UK, done some press conferences, and left with the England set up.

It's not convenient but it is professional and a display of intent.

Incidentally: who is televising these games? And are they going to be broadcast live?

Premier Sports have ALL games live.

BBC have England games live and the final.

Sorry Duck but the above is daft. There is absolutely no point at all in McNamara flying for 24 hours across the world to do a couple of 20 minute press conferences, then have to do the same trip back again. The remainder of his staff are UK based so it's not as if they will be travelling on their own. McNamara will meet them at their base in Australia, and it will go from there.

The flying in/out argument is symptomatic of the problem - our national coach works and lives on the opposite side of the world and being national coach isn't his full-time job.

I know in the modern age he can watch SL games on the web blah blah but it's not the same. He should be in this country scouting, checking on players, organising training camps etc. And I know there are plenty of English players in Australia but the up-and-coming ones aren't.

It's not daft to show unity and intent.
McNamara is showing nothing more that it being an inconvenience to him.
Completely unprofessional IMO.

And morriseyisawire only adds weight to it
