This is not an Atkins bashing but I'm sure duckie will face a back lash!

Atkins isn't a footballer, his wing men have always been found some wanting since he has been here.

We're low on back rowers for a change, a move like Benny who too wasn't a footballer might be the way forward for him.

Penny needs a player who has presence but can also pass to give him half a yard.
We have many footballers who have 3/4 play in them at this club....all the pivotal backs less GOB and Myler plus Evans, Currie, Grix and (Wheeler).

Not even worth a backlash Atkins has been more than decent this season and ended it in fine form

UR.
Not criticising his play or form in defence or attack this back end of the season, he does have a menacing game, although I disagree about him being decent all season, he was utterly tripe through the first half of it!
I'm merely pointing out that he isn't a footballer and he never has since he came here.

I spoke to an ex SL back one time who said he would much rather face Atkins than any of our other 3/4s purely because you can read his play, he will seldom pass and when he does, they are often forced.
Not my words but who am I to disagree?!

The Penny one would make sense if Riley was part of the squad all season, he wasn't and Penny still stayed at Swinton. If Penny gets a chance to stake a claim then fair enough!

I have neither the time nor the inclination to look up the facts, besides there'll be someone better placed than me to comment, but Irish, forgive me for asking but what has the guy got to do to stake a claim?
It 'appeared' as though he was scoring in every game for the Lions (when fit).

I would probably have Rhys Evans over Kevin Penny any day of the week, but with the rotation system TS seems to employ, I would have thought he'd have given Kevin a few more games than the Doncaster Cup game (in which he played very well IMO)

Can I just say O'Brien has shown remarkable fortitude to win this new contract in the face of some testing experiences.

I'm GOB smacked that he has managed to turn it around. I felt sure he was on the way out and would struggle to find a SL club to boot. But he has put everything into the last 7/8 games he played for us and fully justifies another chance to cement a position in the team. Still a lot to do though, in his position there are no hiding places.

I'm pleased for GOB all down to him now he has the ability, with a new two year contract the cement is now in place, we're all hoping it will it go off, as said previously it's a tough position to play.

It's been fun.

One thing GOB has is a pair of stones bigger than medicine balls, such a small guy, gets battered every game, gets up and just cracks on.

Lets not let the facts get in the way when the Penny bashers are on the prowl.

Kev started the season off at Swinton and performed well enough to earn his place in the side for the game at Castleford on Easter Monday. Despite the poor performance from the whole team he kept his place in the side for the Doncaster Cup game where he scored a hat trick.

He then played at Bradford the following week and scored a try before getting injured in the second half and this was the reason he wasn't in the side.

He only returned to fitness in August and he played a few games at Swinton; the wing spots were at this point taken by Joel and Rhys apart from 1 game that Ormsby played in.

Who is to say that if he hadn't got injured then he could have kept his place in the side so I for one feel that he is 100% entitled to have his new contract and I hope he proves the knockers wrong.
