That's what happens with predictions, some are right, some are wrong, no one get's everything right. There's some people on here that just sit on the fence then with hindsight jump on people that actually picked a side and got it wrong and of course if you blindly back your own team you'll never get any stick if you get it wrong.

Fair point, you certainly stuck to your guns. There's also those that like to make negative predictions, slate the team all season then do a runner when Leeds win the GF only to come back with a new username the following season and repeat ad nauseam until they eventually get it right. Those sort also like going to sporting events to read magazines for some reason.

I've been blindly backing my team for over 30 years, got it wrong for way more than 20 of them of course.
The pre-season optimism is half the fun isn't it? It's certainly more fun that incessantly whining, trolling forums and writing them off after every defeat.

Re: Leeds' relegation form : Sat Sep 27, 2014 3:32 pm
I'm fairly sure I haven't been a naysayer.

However, the new structure next year changes things. We've had a successful business model for a decade. We've had a lot of success (not so much this year) in an environment where there were more play off places than credible contenders. Next year that situation changes.

The question now is not whether we've had it right previously but whether we have the right resources in place to get it right next year. IMO it's hard to be sure, because different decisions would probably have been made (Wakey, Bulls and London?) if top 4 had been an absolute necessity.

But I am not altogether convinced this squad and coach combo is put together right for the slightly altered job. I'm not much given to negativity, but I am not at all confident for 2015 at this point.

I'd agree with all that but it's not 2015 that worries me, in fact I think we'll do pretty well next year, it's the year or 2 after that concerns me. Definitely without Peacock, probably without Leuluai and maybe one of McGuire or Sinfield. I think we need a significantly strengthened pack to deal with those losses.

I do yeah, you clearly don't unfortunately.

Looking forward to more of your predictions next season, although you seem to be starting early. You were bang on the money this year eh

If you are going to mock others' predictions I wouldn't bother - only the four of us in the prediction semi finals (and top four in the season as a whole) have any right to mock the predictions of others. And I don't want to do that, so find another put-down if that is what you want to do.

OK, sorry I obviously didn't understand the rules Jamie. I wasn't aware we had to enter a competition to be allowed to make reference to people's constant negativity and writing off of the squad's cup chances. I'll know better for next year eh.

Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

Re: Leeds' relegation form : Sun Sep 28, 2014 7:55 am
It' s difficult to see how Leeds will be better than last season - the starting 17 have reached their peace or in a lot of cases passed it. If there were better talent coming through and a willingness to develop it I would be more confident.

The way the season is structured suggests the back end of the regular season will be important when the top sides meet each other, with an ageing squad that doesn't bode well. This side has consistently struggled to beat the top sides during the regular season can't see that changing tbh.

I don't buy into the CC wrecked the season - Warrington played one less game than Leeds and they are just running into form. Leeds had ample opportunity to get their game head on after the win but were found wanting. The losses to Bradford, Wakey, London are just a smokescreen - when it mattered they could not get it done.

Which leads me on to the quality of the coaching - I was very critical of Tony Smith when he was here but he is on a different stratosphere to McDermott - replacing Briers and half a pack and still being in with a shout is some achievement. It would interesting to see how McDermot would have coped with no Sinfield or Peacock!! Something needs to be done with the coaching structure at Leeds its rotten to its core - Leeds have the pick of the youngsters in the largest RL area in Yorkshire yet appear unable to really develop the youngsters. Look at Watkins potentially one of the greatest centres the modern era has seen yet he isn't improving he is regressing.

The style of play cannot change because the majority of the players are too long in the tooth to change - for the club to move forward gradual but sustained changes need to made in the coaching and playing personnel. GH needs to dig deep and find some talent from the NRL to give the club the lift it needs

Until some of the relentlessly negative posters go back and actually look at some of the games we lost and why their conclusions will continue to be wrong.

There were some games we sacrificed in order to win the CC - that worked

There were some games we lost narrowly despite having 10 first team players out

There were some games we got beaten by a better side despite having the first team out

There were some games we played really poorly.

Couldn't agree more with this. Spot on.

And this club losing a player like Morgan Smith, to me, is just typical of the complacency and contempt, we have been operating with the academy over last few seasons.

and I can confidently tell you that Cameron Smith entertained leaving the Leeds Scholarship until Hetherington sat him down for a chat. Even then I expect Warrington (not the club he almost left for) to repeat their Morgan Smith smash and grab raid in 12 months time and Cameron will move to the Wires Academy.
