SALFORD Trio agree a secret bailout for the local rugby club… which is followed by a fat redundo cheque and a new job at said club for one of the trio!
The story is that in summer last year the elected Mayor was involved in a £160,000+ bailout for the club, which was kept on the QT and not even minuted. Then one of the three officers, Martin Vickers, left, with a £78k + "redundancy" cheque in his trousers, and then went to Salford to be their new Chief Executive. The Salford Star did an article
Nice work. As Private Eye might say, trebles all round!

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.
Sad preacher nailed upon the coloured door of time;
Insane teacher be there reminded of the rhyme.
There'll be no mutant enemy we shall certify;
Political ends, as sad remains, will die.
Keep up FA: the owner has been in Private Eye before: there was a similar article a year ago re his (err) Liverpool hotel issue and I remember an article on something else since. As for this story, it has been brewing in the local media for a month or more. Even I, who lives in Rochdale, am becoming bored by the story.
There have been numerous posts on here and on our site re. the owner and the loan (or whatever it will turn out to be labelled) and his business history. Local Councillor Ms Garrido is a keen opponent of our set-up and uses the Star (a Socialist organ methinks) to spread her Tory ideas and attack the Salford club! Sort of like Standee using Codhead as a mouthpiece.
The breaking news is our fall out with Kooga. Here's your chance to get that into Private Eye.

We bit confused Hillbilly, why would a Tory use a socialist paper to attack a socialist majority council? Think you have been sniffing too much glue there. It is newsworthy, no point attacking FA, it is a demonstration of a rotten borough (as Private Eye call them). Snouts in the trough and all of that.

I don't think Hillbilly is confused, rather pointing out the irony of Garrido being allied with The Star, as Shakespeare once said "misery doth acquaint a man with strange bedfellows"

Therein lies the newness of the story - and it has been reported in Private Eye after the press reports and enquiries had concluded recently.(They certainly dig out a story,but I presume all their reporters are based in London.)
Bit rich the thread being started by a Bradford Bulls fan after their 'involvement' from a local MP - No doubt 'Gorgeous' George Galloway is seeking the truth from his local establishment somewhere in the Middle East or Tower Hamlets.
It is not unusual for a local council - when the person responsible is not on the sick and able to sign the necessary documentation - and after everyone who is meant to be there is there - to hand over money to a stadium which hosts rugby league.
164k last year is possibly the same as 170k a couple of years ago as we all recover from 13 years of Nu Labour
