American Hustle - 70's set rom-con movie, which opens with the words, 'Some of this actually happened.' I'm not sure how much of it did, but it's a great watch - the story unfolds nicely and the performances are outstanding - particularly Christian Bale as the seedy but sympathetic main character, and Jennifer Lawrence doing a great turn as his highly strung wife on the side.
Based on Ranulph Fiennes' book 'The Feather Men', whether the story has any grain of truth or not is irrelevant - none of the characters are particularly likeable (except the female interest), which left the outcome feeling a bit pointless. I spent most of the film wondering who I was supposed to be siding with. That said, overall it's a well-shot, gritty thriller but needs a likeable protagonist, rather than the miserable Jason Statham or the equally stern (and weird-looking) Clive Owen.
Muscle Shoals, 9/10 only spolit slightly by the bell end that is Bono of U2, a fantastic documentary about that Muscle Shoals Sound, featuring Aretha Franklyn, Etta James, Percy Sledge, Wilson Picket, Gregg Allman, Ed King, The Swampers, Keith Richards and many more, well worth a watch if you are a serious music fan
