Warrington have been here before with a player called Mickey Learmonth, why not wait and see what happens over the next twenty-seven months in the games before claiming that any player is a world beater. It puts too much pressure on the individual concerned (sixteen years old!) and makes the efforts of the players who come through locally seem diminished when they are the ones to have come through the clubs very own system.
I agree anything could happen in 2 years, he could find beer and women and then its game over. But the reason a bigger song and dance is made of his signing is because he comes from another club with such a good pedigree and reputation.
I appreciate that is the reason behind it but can't help but think the reverse should be the focus; players who have been part of the system since they were 12 and 13 years old. I can't think of any time in recent memory that they have signed so many local players and as I said before six of them are also internationals (three English, three Welsh) all of whom played in the Wales v England game a few weeks ago.
Anyone involved with local community rugby would see that as a real achievement.
