The judges scores are in, and here they come, also I will pick out some of the judges comments:
“Be vigilant” by Pumpety pump
“We were highly impressed with Pumpetypump’s obvious astronomical knowledge, as Uranus does, indeed, have rings (9 of them) a fact which is not known by most of the population. We were unsure whether the picture’s vertical misalignment was intended to evoke a feeling of hovering weightlessly is space, or just indicative of a luddite-like inability to even post a simple image properly, but it works. We would have liked more graphic detail of Uranus (or probably not, actually) but the entrant has gone to astonishing lengths to get absolutely right the actual distance that Nigel Wood would need to be to be in a stable orbit around the planet given their relative masses.
We score this entry 4.2”
Untitled by bullinenemyland
“Brilliant allusions to the fake Moon landing conspiracy theories (eg starts visible, which in daylight would not be possible; the accidental inclusion of a McDonalds near the studio, the misaligned shadows indicating multiple light sources etc). The image is a clear allegory of corruption and greed and the concept is well thought through. However due to a lingering doubt that this is 100% the entrant’s own work, (the signature “Rog” is a giveaway) the score has been adjusted.
Bullinenemyland therefore scores 3.8”
Untitled by vbfg
“Simple yet brilliant in its concept and execution, a stunning tour de force, perfect for the spirit of the competition. Particularly eyecatching was the clever use of a Red Arrow to indicate the position of the subject, the counterpoint between an agile, supersonic jet and an immobile lump of lard being near genius.
We will score vbfg 4.9”
“Nigel Wood is adamant” by Steel City Bull
“The judges would firstly like to highly commend the entrant for his dedication and persistence in tracking down the subject to take the photo in the first place. Additional marks have been awarded for his foresight in having taken with him a camera of almost sufficient wide format to take in much of the subject, even though sadly the girth of the subject has obviously been slimmed down in Photoshop to fit within the screen, it is still commendable. Not many people have side by side monitors.
We’ll give it 4.7”
“Awesome effort” by debaser
A novel concept which with a bit more work would have scored higher. Neither Uranus nor the subject, sadly, are in reality encased in a white block, but the idea of physically removing him from this planet to a location in the outer solar system was appealing to the judges.
All in all, scores 3.6”
“Hero” by thepimp007
“This astonishing artwork is, we are certain, entirely original, and so the judges assume that we have here discovered a new talent, on a pat with Michelangelo. In fact we are sure we have seen something similar on the roof of the Sistine Chapel, but not as good.
We have to give it 5!”
“Plenty of space” by tigertot
The imaginative use of a scene from one of the entrant’s well-known Ilkley orgies is noted and appreciated. However we have felt the need to mark it down a little for having invited the subject in the first place. Plus it’s just a copied picture of Mr Creosote, you lazy feckless twwat. On the other hand the judges did like the extremely tenuous link.
We score this one 3.2”
The bonus available for this round was 5 points but no team posted a full set of entries and so the team posting most entries is TEAM SJS and they get the 5 bonus points
