My understanding was all existing contracts were void in event of relegation. Surely if we had 'option' to release players we don't want we'd also have 'option' to retain existing players we do want? Surely a misquote or lazy journalism.

It might have something to do with his age and that whole thing about if he signs for another team before he gets to a certain age then Bradford are legally entitled to money from the signing club for the player's development. It's usually not a huge amount of cash and tends to be set by a tribunal. It could be that Bradford have said "we're letting you leave and to help you get a new club we're not going to ask for money"

I think it is just the wording. All contracts are void which means we either try and re-sign them or let them go. Void contracts can sometimes work in your favour if you decide you would rather not keep a player and sign a "better" replacement.

Suppose it could be something to do with that although I thought contracts were void and I assume in that situation any compensation for training claim we may have had would also be void.

simply pr speak from his agent. Being released is slightly more positive than not considered good enough to re-sign. Journalists are lazy ( arent we all?), give them a press release they dont have to do any work on, hey, get it printed. or am I not being cynical enough?

Maybe he had a junior contract [ie not a SL one] which isn't affected by relegation?
