Whilst reading the new signings thread the subject of overseas players got brought up, and I was wondering what the rules were for next season. I had a quick scan on the rfl site, which mentioned each club is allowed 5, with Championship clubs 1, but not specific to next season. http://www.therfl.co.uk/the-rfl/rules/i ... section=C1 (section C1:4:2) Is the 'Non-Fed' rule still in place too? London & Bradford both have more than 1 overseas player signed for next season. Have the rules changed to allow other Championship clubs to sign more than 1?

Pretty sure it's 7 non fed for SL and 5 non fed for championship.

7 non fed! Its no wonder we can't compete with the southern hemisphere, theres no English players to pick

At least 18 English players x 12 teams not enough?

NZ manage to put out a winning team with just one club!

But its not 18 English players is it, what about all the other non-english who are qualified as Fed players such as French/samoans etc.

Nor is it 12 English teams

The only Samoans who qualify as fed trained are those with exemptions. Either the pre-2008 exemption or those from Crusaders when they went under.
Both of which will be rapidly reducing as the pre-2008 ones retire and the Crusaders ones move clubs.


I'd have kept it at 5. I don't see why a club needs more than 5. IIRC the original aim was to slowly reduce it down to 3 but it seems as though Salford & London's struggles this year and last prompted an increase to 7.
Hopefully it won't last long at 7 and will be brought down again.

They do, however, they all play in the NRL week in week out.

Every NRL club has their share of Kiwis and the numbers coming through in the under 20's is phenomenal.
I think Parramatta's Holden Cup team had 14 Islanders/Kiwis in the 17 today.

7 is ok as long as there are no loopholes where the actual number of overseas players at certain clubs ends higher.

Will the minimum number of club trained players still be in place next year? Will this rule apply to championship clubs?
