Re: Any thoughts? : Tue Aug 26, 2014 7:41 pm
At Leigh, we had a group of supporters helping out the old BOD, on a voluntary basis. Whilst a lot of good work was being done, mainly to attempt to avert a financial crisis, we were, at best, merely treading water. There was no sign of any forward movement.

Just over a year ago, our current BOD (they prefer to call themselves a Board of Management) got together to move the club forwards. They all committed to significant financial involvement, over a number of seasons, as well as devoting their considerable business acumen and time, to the cause of resurrecting our club, with the ultimate aim of being a successful SL club.

This season has been a spectacular success, but the job has just started. There is a long, long way to go, to achieve the ultimate goal.

Whilst the involvement of willing volunteers did much to move our club away from the brink of disaster, and formed part of the foundations of what is currently being achieved, I'm afraid investment (£££, expertise and time) by a group of local business men, is probably the best (only?) way forward. We've tried the single owner approach, and, whilst the guy was wonderful, and well meaning, that regime was probably the reason we were in the mire, a couple of years ago.

Anyway, the group approach certainly seems to be working at the moment at Leigh. Surely, it can also be done at a proud club such as Halifax?

Sorry MM, I meant to give a quote to my response.

I certainly agree that more supporter involvement at board level would be a good idea. I have to say something needs to change if Fax are going to be challenging at even the level we currently find ourselves at.

We currently have Pete Mc working with the BoD don't we?

I wouldn't trust the "trust" at the moment in my opinion. I know the trust know my feelings on their social appearance and approach. However I am helping too to change their image without being just a critic. Fax TV special this winter is being sorted to bring out the true story of the Trust in a positive light.

I don't think Pete Mac is on the board to represent supporters. He has brought several £000 into the club via new investments, plus funds he has invested in the club.

So the other directors are not supporters, yet they put money into the club, what an insult

Reaping what we have sewn.
3rd is about right for our performances on and off the field.
If we're advertising and marketing Topside and serving Brisket, what do we expect.
We have to focus on the RL, back to basics.

Re: Any thoughts? : Wed Aug 27, 2014 6:09 pm
Again. I think some are being harsh. We are were we are because at the moment we are the third best club in the league. The two clubs above have had more invested in their team and coaching staff than us. The directors over the last 8 or so years have done a great job rebuilding after the mess Nigel Wood left. Not least they should be congratulated on sacking off that horrible "Bluesox" moniker.

Before we stick the boot in, ask yours selves, are the board fans of the club and where would be without them? I don't see investors smashing the door of the Shay in does anyone else?

A last thing, we ended up with Big Nige cos we drove away Mr Gartland. It's not great where we are after we tasted success all those years ago but it's a damned sight better than where we could be without the people investing in the club now. We have to suck it up, deal with it and support the club and all it's facets. I hate being resigned to us probably missing the middle 8 next year but let's win the third eight and build steadily as the money evens out! Oh Hali Hali Hali

I myself would not trust a person that berate hard working people who promised to raise as much monies as possible £20. to £30 thousand per year up to now. What does it do to our club to put statements like this on a public message board, from someone who reckons to be some kind of media guru. As for the media thing now that is a joke.

All I can say is that if the board goes what would we have in its place?
I don't think we can complain about their level of commitment and perhaps they need some one to compliment them rather than replace them.
If we had a 'fan' place on the board what would they bring? More of the same or some fresh impetus, problem is we don't really know what is going on and so pushing for change is difficult as there may not actually be any room for movement.

Re: Any thoughts? : Wed Aug 27, 2014 9:39 pm
Just to re emphasise what my post was about was to see if we could help the current BOD, who I am 100% behind and totally agree are supporters as well as financial backers and without whom we would never have got as far as we have . It was never my intention for there to be a public debate about the merits of the Supporters Trust or the contribution a particular individual makes etc. We are all supposed to be on the same Fax page here, not working in silos of Fax Hierarchy v Supporters Trust etc.
My thoughts are that we have a potential untapped talent pool within the genuine spectator base who could actually support those already in position to provide fresh ideas, managerial skills, marketing skills, spread the workload etc. that could help if the BOD wanted that and there was the right conduit within the club to encourage that.
I can't speak for others but personally I have run a rugby club, run my own business, held Senior Management positions in Blue Chip companies and see no way at the moment of being able to offer that skill set to Fax. If there are another dozen fax fans out there with similar skills and desire to help, surely that would boost the current structure rather than hinder it?
Just a thought!
