Just iplayed coverage of the CC and was struck by the glowing praise for Leeds by Wilkin and Crabtree. Both seemed to mean what they said. Now, I can understand retired players showing this generosity of spirit but is it healthy for current players to enter into this mind set? Crabtree's always struck me as fairly amiable - perhaps too much so - but Wilkin used to exhibit a fair bit of spite towards Leeds earlier in his playing career. I know all players are different but as one of his team's motivators, will his effectiveness be lessened?

Nah.

Just a healthy respect and being professional in his position as a pundit for the day. Remember wilkin was alot younger back then now he's one of the older heads in the dressing room.

I don't really understand your point, however the Beeb's obsession with interviewing players at half time is ridiculous!

Perfectly summed up when the interviewer said to Shenton "what's it like out there, it seems intense?" To which Shenton replied "well yeah of course it's intense it's a final"

Really hoping one day to see a big forward collide with Robbie Hunter Paul when he's doing his pre-match spot right up close to the players on the pitch.

Not really, the question was a set up for Shenton to talk up the game's chess-like strategies (despite an overall lack of excitement), which he didn't have the intelligence or eloquence to take advantage of.

But that points out the problem with it. He'll want to head off towards the changing rooms for the team talk, not stand there giving eloquent well thought out answers.

He's only seconds since being involved in the thick of the action and now he needs to get in the changing rooms. He's not planned out a dinner speech, an eloquent well thought out answer ain't gonna be coming.

I understand it's part of the agreement with the broadcaster and, as such, it goes with the territory.

With Woods constantly telling viewers it wasn't a "classic" and Shenton unable to highlight the intense battle out on the field, the game really suffers to gain new fans.

As an international, Shenton has had more than enough media training to be able to handle such a "gimme" set up question.

That is the job of the pundits in the gantry and studio, leave the players to let their actions do the talking. The last thing you want at half time is Robbie Paul unexpectedly shoving a microphone in your face and spouting a load of incomprehensible gibberish.
