bruno as an x Centre / wing should be doing the same as learn did when he scored the first try. being great only in deference is fine if you are playing American football but if we wont to be a top club our back row forwards need to be good in attack as well

Rubbish. Any team is only going to have a handful of players that offer that X factor in attack. Defence is far more important and any club needs a handful of players to lead the way in this area.
Having played sport myself I know that someone like Michael Lawrence should be one of the first names on the team sheet every week.

Yet their brave bid came to a stunning end when Cudjoe stepped out of the defensive line to intercept a pass and then run away for a 90-metre effort. (Times 2)

Paul Anderson has given him a specific job to do, as he has to every team mmber, and Michael does his duty with absolute aplomb.
Between 40 and 50 tackles per game when he 's named in the starting 13, not bad for a relatively young lad.

Lawrence in the team is massive for us, for his defence alone.

he has got bigger this season and improved alot in his go forward too now, i used to think the same about his go forward being poor but its alot better now with him putting size on... this to go with his defence makes him a top player and very under rated.

taai and ferres have the go forward but dont do the same amount of tackles

Re: widnes next : Wed Aug 20, 2014 4:48 pm
i disagree, most pro rugby league players can attack, not all can defend sufficiently, just as not all can kick as well as brough or scoot as well as lunt etc.

some players are given specific roles in the team, michael lawrence's role is to tighten up the middle which he does superbly well, yes he has lost some pace and skill since moving into the middle but his job is not to be the focus in attack but the enforcer in defence. a job he does as good as anyone in the competition.

all teams have that player who is a defensive rock to compensate for others' lack of defence, it's a team game and he does his role in the team extremely well.

as i've said he isn't the best attacking player these days, but he is the best defensive player and without him we would be opened up through the middle regularly.

I agree Meast, but I think the problem is that since moving into the pack Bruno has bulked up and has lost lost quite a bit of pace still in my opinion a valuable player.

Bruno is immense for us, his defensive work alone is worth a place in the team over a more 'attacking' player at times, like others have said it's a role he has been given and does it very well.

Those games he was missing for us--- didn't it just show!!!!
Lots of fans miss the defensive work that players like Lawrence do. They don't understand how they win us games because they aren't scoring the points.

I'm a massive fan of Bailey however Bruno would be my starting 13 every week. So solid defensively down the middle . We certainly miss him when he's not.on the pitch. Attack is improving and with his versatility he's very much asset.

Defence is key , defence wins matches
