i disagree, most pro rugby league players can attack, not all can defend sufficiently, just as not all can kick as well as brough or scoot as well as lunt etc.
some players are given specific roles in the team, michael lawrence's role is to tighten up the middle which he does superbly well, yes he has lost some pace and skill since moving into the middle but his job is not to be the focus in attack but the enforcer in defence. a job he does as good as anyone in the competition.
all teams have that player who is a defensive rock to compensate for others' lack of defence, it's a team game and he does his role in the team extremely well.
as i've said he isn't the best attacking player these days, but he is the best defensive player and without him we would be opened up through the middle regularly.
