Training at the Broncos : Thu Jul 31, 2014 9:56 am
http://www1.skysports.com/watch/video/s ... after-move

Watched this video from Mason Caton-Brown on Sky Sports website.. mentions in there that it was a big shock to the system moving to Salford in that the training was far tougher... leads me to wonder, what on earth are we doing in London?!!

He isn't the first to mention when leaving that training sessions at the Broncos have been easy compared to the other SL teams.... why on earth is that?? Full time athletes, full time training staff - why are we not training at the same level as other SL teams?

We're now in the Championship next season... do you think our training is more suited to that level or are we still going to struggle down there?

Baffles me really that our coaches and conditioning staff are that much worse than other teams. I know Grima has had a few months on his own this year, but it doesn't seem to have been just these last few months that it has been an issue/mentioned.. What is going on??

Did do earlier. Hadn't seen this article. Every player who leaves says the same. Don't think we breed the same mentality as up north.

Strength in depth will play a big part. Maybe not so much at Salford but at the likes of Wigan they have a squad of 30+ who could all do a job and therefore you need to impress in training.

Hold on. Rewind a sec. Didn't he say training was more intense. And the facilities were better. And that was all he said.

He didn't say
"it was a big shock to the system moving to Salford in that the training was far tougher"

I think 'intense' does suggest training is harder than here though.

Sarginson and Clubb said the same thing when they left.

It's pretty pathetic, really. You can accept players not being as good as their opponents, or Londoners being less experienced, but there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for being less fit or not training as hard. These are, apparently, professional athletes.

I think there is an inevitability from anyone who changes job to be out of their comfort zone and in an unfamilar environment and maybe finding more from themselves than before for an initial period before generally drifting back to a more average level.

I suppose what might be disappointing is that you'd assume that as soon as a sportsperson becomes professional that you kind of think they will go all out to build the best physique and fitness possible.

Cheers

The point about changing jobs is an interesting one but probably more relevant to business than moving from one SL club to another. Most job changes are a promotion or different role. A centre moving to another club to be a centre shouldn't experience a change in intensity of the training programme or be out of their comfort zone unless it's a step up? From part time to full time perhaps but from one club to another at the same level it shouldn't be as obvious. It might just be that in one club you are on a planned curve of development so change isn't as sudden while at a new club your not being signed as a development project.

Joey in his answers makes an interesting point that the ground work was done here. That's true and maybe it's just the change takes place as the next phase of development is due or is forced on the player.

Joey says it's not true. Other regimes no tougher, just different, with different emphasis based on coach's approach. Well, that's my paraphrase of what he said.

MCB's performance for Salford last night didn't indicate any improvement on what he did here.
