I wasn't being entirely serious... It would also be worth pointing out that mid-30s are generally a peak age for marathon runners at the elite level, as your strength and endurance is much higher. This tends not to apply for contact sports. So there's another way in which my comparison is not valid. You can have that one for free.

But the point stands that age is a number. Some (most) players won't be able to keep doing it into their late 30s. Some will. The better way to judge is to look at how their bodies are coping and what their fitness test numbers are like. Which I'm pretty sure happens a lot in an elite sport. To ignore that and say "35 or 36: therefore past it" would be a bit silly, IMO.

That's too sensible.

There are certain posters on here who have said "if you're good enough then you're old enough", so surely "if you're good enough then you're not too old" also applies doesn't it?

I don't think Leuluai was that good last week but was that because....

A, He's 36 years old
Or
B, it's professional sports, bad games happen for players of all ages.

It's almost a go to response whenever he has a poor game....."oh he played poor because he's too old." Surely it's not that black and white.

Spot on.and the same goes for the other end of the age scale.

Obviously Kylie is not quite the player he was a few years back.but he hasn't deteriorated all that much and is still one of our best pack men right now.that much is black and white imo.

But that isn't the case all. I haven't said his poorer performances since returning are due to his age. What I have said is a year older (i.e. Future) takes a lot out of you when you hit mid 30's, not to mention higher risk of injuries. Therefore expecting that a player at his age can repeat what he has done this year is expecting a lot. To add to this better options were available to ensure that extra year is not a gamble.

We had a good prop, amor remember him?
Just stating the blindingly obvious but come the business end of next season will be exactly one year from now.
Which could be a year too much for Kylie .
As I have stated before ,better to move a player on a year too soon, than a year too late.
Although I have suspect Kylie will pack up the end of this season. With reference to JP who knows with him ,he is an absolute one off. I think he could do another season, maybe at the back end of next season he may have to spend a bit more time on the bench.

No, we had a mediocre prop in Amor.

That he's gone on to develop into a much better player than he ever produced in a Leeds shirt is one of those things that happen in sport. Sometimes it works for you, sometimes against you.

Did we not have the option though to retain him at the end of the season he blossomed at wakey but declined to?

Either way, as has been said many times, not too many have left in recent years to become superstars that we have a right to moan about anyway.

People assume his role will b be the same this year as next. Heel probably be lower on the pecking order and pay off the rotations. The likes of Sutcliffe should be permanant fixtures next season

Quite and the Leeds CEO and coach were IIRC in the press at the time stating they were aware of his rising performances. When push came to shove though the Leeds CEO did what the Leeds CEO generally does - made a take it or leave it offer which not for the first time was left. Still at least it kept the wage bill pegged to other equally happy just to survive in SL middle ranking clubs.

Can't agree that he is a mediocre prop, if that was the case why would one of our main rivals sign him. Also my contacts at wakey tell me several other clubs were chasing him,all these clubs are top six clubs which in its self tells a story.
The galling thing is we did everything right in nurturing the player and when it comes to bringing him back into the fold we fail.
It's to be hoped the incoming cuthbertson fits the bill or it will be egg on the face time for GH.
