Hooker is still a specialist position IMO and we desperately need an out and out hooker to take us to the next level. Lee works very hard and could do a job for us as an interchange, but we need a quick dynamic hooker who will get us going forward on the back of the forwards hard graft. I see Lee as more of a 13 – he has the build and gets through some solid graft and there’s always room for players like that in any team, but yet again there were times yesterday when a better hooker would have scooted and got us going forward, instead Lee just took a couple of steps and distributed the ball. If you look at every club (baring London and possibly Widnes) they are all far quicker around the ruck. For me this is still our weak spot.
Theo again could do a job there, like Rob Burrow does for Leeds or Luke Robinson does for Huddersfield, but do we really want him defending in the middle channel and using up so much energy? This would make him less effective going forward in my opinion. I like Theo he’s quick, elusive, his support play is superb and he picks off loose balls all the time, but I’m still not convinced of converting him into a hooker just yet.
Shaun Lunt would fit the bill perfectly, with Lee/Owen as interchange.
