If he had stayed and we got Fielden as forwards coach he may have got back to what he was in his first year. Unfortunately, like a lot of players this year he just hasn't performed and he does stop just before impact which isn't good if you want to be a powerhouse prop. Maybe Bett's is the man to get the best out of him. If not, I wouldn't be surprised if we play against him in the play-offs this time next season.
Totally under performed this season. Maybe he'll do better at another club
Exactly my reaction too. He's been a passenger for large parts of this season and nowhere near the form he showed in his 1st year. Good luck to him, perhaps the change of scenery will see him return to earlier form.
Played better under Potter. Form has been patchy at best since. From the size of him he should bring more impact off the bench than he does. He might flourish at Widnes but he lacks a bit of mongrel.
He's part of the pack that has been roundly whipped in almost every game. The size of him - and also the first year we saw of him - he could and should have been able to take up some of the slack when we lost several pack members but he for whatever reason runs like he doesn't like collisions.
From what you've said its obvious he's got the talent in him, that's massive for Widnes. Betts gets the best out of players, look at Phil Joseph. Betts really does get the best out of players, I'd doubt many teams would want many of our first 17, but we're in the play offs and challenge cup semi, which is down to getting the best out of players.
Cheers again, and good luck for next season. Will miss visiting Odsal!
Jamie Foster having 50% more tackle busts says more about him than i ever could.
Just having a quick scan through I think there are two props in the entire top 50 for that stat. Daryl Clarke's at the top, and then bar an occasional hooker or second row, all outside the top 20, it's pretty much backs all the way down. Maybe three props at the most in the entire list.

Do I infer from your message that Betts gets the best out of players?
Funnily enough, my impression of Nas is that he's a half decent prop but isn't a leader.
When he's had a prop alongside him who was willing to take a lead by putting in the hard carries and hits, eg Kaufusi, Mullally and Fakir, then Nas would be inspired to get more involved too, but otherwise he'll just trundle the ball about without really bothering.

Agree with this - I saw another side of Nas this year when he managed to play with Kaufusi. When Kaufusi upped the tempo, Nas raised his game also. Problem is when Kaufusi went back to the Giants, Nas went back into his shell.
